Easy & Frugal DIY Mother’s Day Gifts
1. DIY Photo Magnets
What Mom doesn’t love photos of her and her children? This is a great way to give Mom a gift that will remind her of you every day!
- A mounting board/ cupboard
- Magnets
- Glue – PVC or UHU for refining edges.
- Brushes – One big and one small to paint on the white paint, and to apply glue.

2. Homemade Lip Gloss
The best part about this gift? It takes about 15 minutes to make! For this DIY gift you will need these four ingredients and a small container to hold your lip gloss.
- 2 Tbs. shea butter
- 3 Tbs. coconut oil
- 2 Tbs. of grated beeswax
- 2 drops of Vanilla essential oil or essential oil of your choice (optional)
Simply combine the first three ingredients in a microwave safe bowl, melt in the microwave (this takes about 1 minute), and then add your essential oil drops. Wait ten minutes for you lip gloss to harden and you’re done!
3. DIY Photo Lamp
This photo lamp is for the more advanced crafter. This make take a long chunk of your day but the end result will leave everyone speechless. For this project you’ll need:
- Lampshade
- Hot Glue Gun
- Vellum
- Craft Knife or Scissors,
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Photos
- Printer

4. Lavender Bubbling Bath Salts
Who doesn’t love a nice bubble bath? Bubble bath can get expensive (and can contain harsh ingredients!) this DIY version will only cost you a few dollars and will make enough for around 24 bubble baths! Even better, you can easily personalize this recipe by changing the color and scent to Mom’s favorites. For this DIY project you’ll need:
- 6 Cups Kosher or Epsom Salt
- ¾ Cup Lavender Scented Body Wash (Or Mom’s favorite scented body wash!)
- 1 tbsp Olive, Coconut, or Sweet Almond Oil
- 2-3 Drops Lavender Essential Oil (Optional)
- Purple Food Coloring (Optional)
To make start by mixing body wash and salt together until well combined. Next, add in your oil, essential oil, and food coloring. Mix well. Then, on a lined baking sheet allow to dry for 24 hours. Once dry break up clumps and spoon into a sealable jar! Then it’s ready to use! Use 1/4 cup of bath salts per bubble bath!
5. DIY Teacup Candles
Have a lot of old or half used candles lying around the house? This DIY gift is the perfect solution! For this project you’ll need:
- Teacups (Look at Goodwill or your local thrift store to find pretty/cheap ones!)
- Candles
- Pencils Or Chopsticks
- Wicks/String

6. DIY Sugar Scrub
Looking for a really quick gift that you can whip up at home? This sugar scrub only has two steps. Simply combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of coconut oil in a small bowl. 7. Chalkboard Menu
Does Mom love to cook? Is she always entertaining? Then this DIY project is sure not to disappoint AND it’s soo easy! Just find a frame you like (I love Home Goods and Hobby Lobby for finding nice and inexpensive frames) and a piece of canvas board. Buy a piece of canvas board that fits the frame or cut to size. Spray with chalkboard paint and wait to dry. When it’s dry pop the board in the frame. Give to Mom with some chalk and you’ve got a fun DIY gift!
8. DIY Tile Photo Coasters
Take your mom’s favorite photos and turn them into a work of art you can use every day! What you’ll need:
- Four 4-by-4-inch white tiles (usually can find for about $1 each at Home Goods!)
- Four 4-by-4-inch square pictures
- Scissors
- Mod Podge
- Foam brush
- Felt
- Hot glue gun
- Length of ribbon
- Clear spray sealant

- Mod-Podge
