I love to read The Billfold’s “My Last Hundred Bucks” because you get to see how ridiculously, and occasionally how wisely, others spend their money. This made me curious which group my spending would fall into and the answer is a little bit of both. Some of my purchases definitely made me cringe ($10 for food that went bad!?) but others were worth it.
Here are the 8 purchases that made up my last hundred bucks.
$10 Dollar Store – It was my dad’s birthday and while I had already bought him a gift we always decorate our house for birthdays. Dollar store decorations are the same as most party stores: banners, poppers, and balloons. Definitely my go to store for decorations.
$22 Panera Bread – I know it seems a little crazy to spend $22 at Panera Bread but this is literally one of the ONLY places my grandmother will eat. She only likes to eat soup. Random? Very. But because of this oddity our weekly lunch is at Panera and I make sure to buy her soup to take home. She says it’s the highlight of her week.<br/ >
$6 Local Coffee Shop: Jitters – Grabbed a large iced tea and a bagel because I was too lazy to make breakfast before work. I get this almost everyday so realizing it was six dollars was depressing and a reality check. That’s $32 a week! Time to start making breakfast at home.
$7 Dollar Store – I went to the dollar store again to buy three water bottles that my friend is decorating for my birthday, two packs of gum, and two pairs of fake eyelashes to wear to the party. Why two pairs? I can’t seem to put on fake eyelashes without destroying the first pair, so two it is!
$32 Nail Salon – My biggest purchase by far was for a manicure and pedicure. I admit this was a splurge but since it was my birthday weekend I decided I deserved the treat. How often do you pamper yourself with a nail session?
$3 Walmart – I tend to buy little random gifts for my 4 year old nephew whenever I see anything I think he might like. Read: impulse buy. This time it was glow in the dark tattoos. While he loved them, I spent the next three hours applying tattoos and staring at them in the dark.
$10 Home Goods – I had to buy a Mandolin slicer because my boyfriend wanted french fries…and I used it as an excuse to buy one. Have I used it or made french fries yet? Nope.

I spent my last $100 on medications I have to have, 32.00, and cigarettes I dont need $14.00, and postage $8.00, and food, the rest of it.

I spend my money way too carelessly….so the fact that I read this and realized that this is even more conservative than the way I spend my money is a wake up call for me to start managing my wallet better!
