Everyone knows that they have to handle life’s big stuff on a daily basis – feeding yourself, taking those emergency calls, getting everyone through their day in one piece, etc. It’s the little things that start adding up and weighing you down. Try tackling one of these things at a time and that back-of-your-mind list could slowly disappear…
Organizing
Have you looked around and wished everything in your home was simply more organized? Then you blow it off since you have to do the next load of laundry and then cook dinner. We’ve all been there.
Instead of looking at it like one, HUGE thing, make a list of each area of your home that needs to be organized. Then you can tackle one, small area a week and be completely done in weeks or a couple of months instead of procrastinating for another year or more.
Security
You may already have a home security system or car alarm, but do you ever worry about things like getting a computer virus or identity theft? Again, it’s easy to put virtual security off to the side while you handle the day-to-day parts of life. But then a comp bug or a credit card application for someone else in your name can knock you out.
Maybe you should make an appointment with yourself to look into virtual security. Browse through a list of the top 10 anitvirus software to protect your electronics. See if something you already have, like a certain credit card or AAA has a program that can monitor your credit. Sometimes a few minutes spent on prevention can save you hours, days, or weeks of your time in the future.
Chores
Have the little chores that need to be done taken over your brain? Whether your guest bed sheets need to be washed or you’ve been putting off mopping the upstairs bathroom floors, you may be weighed down by the little things on your mind.
Try making a list instead of mental sticky notes. If you list out all the chores you know need doing, you can tackle a little one every day or two and be done in no time. And having the chores out of your head could lead to better things like deep sleep.
Errands
We all put off errands that we know about but aren’t at the top of the priority list. Is one of your toilets making a rattling noise when it flushes? It might need a new fill valve. Maybe your door hinges need some WD40 that you keep forgetting to buy. Or maybe you’ve been putting off getting an oil change.
Whatever those little errands are, it’s much easier to get them off your list by making one and working your way down. You can’t remember everything. It’s natural. But there’s no reason to keep using mental space to beat yourself up for procrastinating.
By tackling the little things on your brain one at a time, you can enjoy the bigger things like your family, friends, and hobbies.
