If you’ve ever filled up your gas tank at Shell, you’ve seen the promos for earning 3-cents off per gallon. Kind of small potatoes, right? Now there is a special promotion where you can earn up to 60-cents off per gallon for some really cheap gas.

Get big discounts on gas in two easy steps

Step 1. Sign up for cheap gas through the Shell Rewards program.

You’ll need to tell them your name and address, which is typical for loyalty programs. I opted to get a rewards card sent to me, because it’ll make redeeming points at the pump easier. The other option is to tie your account to your cell phone. Now that’s a number you won’t forget! You can also use your cell to check your rewards balance, which I like. Who wants to log into their account when you can get a text with the info?

Step 2. Earn up to 60-cents off per gallon! Three ways to do this:

• Refer a friend to join the Shell Rewards program for 20-cents off per gallon *after* they purchase 8+ gallons. There is no limit to the number of people you can refer. If you refer another friend, you get another 20-cents off per gallon so it’s good to space them out!
• Spend $100 at Toys “R” Us, JC Penney, or Olive Garden for 20-cents off per gallon. You can mix and match as long as you spend at least $100 at those three stores.
• Link your MasterCard debit or credit card to your Fuel Rewards account for 20-cents off per gallon *one time*.

If you refer one friend, spend $100 at those three stores, and link your MasterCard debit or credit card, you’ll get 60-cents off per gallon. You could also just refer three friends, and earn 60-cents off per gallon.

Caveats…there is always one

Your fuel savings are valid for one use, up to a maximum of 20 gallons, one vehicle per transaction, valid on the *second* fill up with a minimum of 8 gallons on the first fill up. So basically, buy 8 gallons of gas and you are good to redeem your rewards. I have no idea why they don’t just give you the rewards on the first fill up!!!

Bonus! Link your cell phone

If you link your cell phone, text FUELREWARDS to 67463 to check your rewards balance. Your mobile number will also be used to create your Member ID, which you can enter at the pump to redeem your rewards. You can also check your rewards balance by texting ‘Balance’ to UFUEL (83835).

Sign up to earn 60-cents off per gallon with Shell Fuel Rewards.

After March 1, you will receive $.03 off per gallon on every fill up until the next promotion. There seem to be 2-4 promotions a year.
