Achew! Flu season has arrived. Below I compare prices and offers to find the best deal on a flu shot. Costco takes the prize for the cheapest place to get a flu shot again this y ear.
Not sure you want a flu shot? The CDC recommends getting a flu shot as soon as they become available as it takes about two weeks after vaccination to be fully protected against the flu.
Most places do not offer the shot everyday so call ahead to make sure you don’t make an unnecessary trip. The prices I list are in Los Angeles, and may vary elsewhere so call ahead to confirm prices.
Costco – Shots are $16.99 and you do not have to be a member to get a shot. Make an appointment as shots are not administered everyday. Print and fill out your vaccine consent form and bring a copy to save time at your appointment.
Walmart – Shots are $25. Expect a registered nurse to administer your vaccine.
Ralphs – Shots are $25.
Rite-Aid – Shots are $27.99. The store is giving out a coupon book with $100 worth of store coupons to flu shot recipients, while supplies last. (Except in New Jersey.)
Target – Shots are $28. No appointment necessary.
Vons – Shots are $30.
CVS – Shots are $31.99, but the store accepts insurance. You’ll also get a 20% off pass for your next shopping visit (except in New Jersey). Flu shots are only available when immunizing pharmacist is on duty.
Pro tip: If you live in Rhode Island, flu shots are free!
Walgreen’s – Shots are $31.99. Insurance acceptance varies. Print the vaccine consent form.
Don’t forget to check with your employer as many provide free or discounted flu shots. If you’re in college, the health center may also offer free or discounted flu shots.

My suggestion would be to, ya know,be healthy. Not inject toxic crap into yourself..

My flu shot, which I always get in October, was free at CVS, and came with a shopping pass. While some people don’t think the flu shots are worth it, as a former elementary school teacher, I can attest to the value of getting the shot. I rarely got the flu, was seldom really sick, and am still leading a healthy life. I got the pneumonia shot when I turned 70, and that’s a lifetime deal. There are some advantages to getting older!

@Jessica P. This post is not to encourage people to get the shot, but to arm them with price information if they decide to do so. Whether you chose to get pricked or not that’s a personal decision.
@EllieD I’ve never gotten a flu shot and have managed not to get the flu. Guess I’m lucky because I’ve also spent a lot of time in classrooms. I know you can use insurance and senior citizens can get a discount, but how did you get the shot for free?

@Yazmin ~ Because of my age, I get the flu shot free… at least at CVS. They even sent me a reminder about it. And I don’t know how much time you’ve spent in classrooms, as I know you’re still very young, but I was in LAUSD for 32+ years, in addition to attending university classes. That’s a lot of exposure to illnesses of others. Never ceases to amaze me how many people send their kids to school when they’re sick, just ’cause they don’t want to take care of them at home… or have to be on a job. Just let the teachers worry about getting sick. Unbelievable!
