With Halloween just around the corner it’s time to start those holiday festivities. When I was younger my mom didn’t let us carve pumpkins (scroll down for 21 pumpkin carving ideas)! While she would always make us pumpkin seeds and delicious pumpkin desserts, I missed out on the fun of making hilarious or scary pumpkins. For this reason, pumpkin carving is now on of my favorite Halloween traditions.
I think the best part about pumpkin carving is the variety of options. You can choose to draw a crazy face on your pumpkin freehand or use stencils to create a more polished design. You can make your pumpkin into a horrifying ghoul or into a pretty princess. Carving a pumpkin is like painting a picture, the possibilities are endless!
Have you had success with pumpkin carving?
I have to admit many of my friends are master pumpkin carvers and I’m a mere amateur. They get all fancy with their pumpkins, but I like to stick to the classic faces. The last time I tried to make an intricate design, I ending up cutting through it and was left with just one giant hole. Ugh! That’s why I stick to easier pumpkins now.
I’ve seen some pretty amazing pumpkins at local events and festivals so I know that there are people out there with real carving skills. Going to these events is fun and a great way to get ideas for your own pumpkins. While there are some gorgeous carvings there are also silly, scary, and classic jack-o-lanterns that don’t require tons of skill.
I’m not a professional pumpkin carver by any means, but I think I could take a stab at most of our new pumpkin carving ideas. My favorite is the cyclops! It’s hilarious and probably very easy since if just consists of one eye and a mouth. That’s my kinda pumpkin! What do you think?
