The other day I stopped into Z Gallerie and was immediately drawn to an absolutely gorgeous Christmas wreath. It was so elegant, so stunning, I had to have it… until I saw the price tag of $75. This led me to thinking, “I bet I could make an equally beautiful wreath for a fraction of the cost.”

Make your own Christmas wreaths and save some holiday cash.

1. Snowball wreath. This festive wreath from Two Junk Chix (above) was made from items found at the Dollar Store and craft stores. “We wrapped all of our styrofoam balls in yarn and we did a few in jute, we wrapped our wreath form in burlap.” The balls were glued to the wreath form and snowflake decorations from Pottery Barn were also glued on.

2. Seashell wreath. I actually made one like this for my mother one Christmas with shells leftover from my beach-themed wedding. Instead of a ribbon, I used raffia. I attached various shells, starfish and sand dollars to a foam wreath ring, which you can find at most craft stores for under $10. For complete instructions, visit Hub Pages.

3. Christmas ball wreath. I found this wreath on the Beautiful Life Made Easy Blog. For only $6 and thirty minutes of your time, you too can make a wreath like this one. “All you need is a metal coat hanger, about 80 Christmas balls (different sizes and preferably 3 different colors), some ribbon and a glue gun. I bought all of these balls last year at the end of the season, so they were on clearance for only $2.44 a box!”

4. Chili pepper wreath. After seeing one of these at a pretty hefty price at Restoration Hardware, I decided to make my own some years ago. Here in California, you can find dried chili peppers at The 99 Cents Only Store as well as any supermarket. I hot glue-gunned them to a wreath form and tied with raffia. It was a lot of work and I did burn myself one too many times with the glue gun, but it was really impressive when it was finished. You can find more detailed instructions from eHow.

5. Glam garland wreath. This can be made from any color of tinselly garland, but I’ve got to say, I love the purple because it’s just so fun! This wreath, from Miss Kris, couldn’t be easier to make. All you need is garland (check your local dollar store), a wreath form, and push pins.

6. Peppermint candy wreath. Many upscale stores sell similar wreaths, but you can make one for almost nothing. This wreath, found on Hum Ideas, is a simple craft project. All you need is a foam wreath form, peppermint candies and a red ribbon. Attach with a hot glue gun and you’re good to go. Sweet!
