My Mother's Day gift to myself!
This post is brought to you by Coupons220.com, offering coupon codes for thousands of online stores.
What do you want for Mother’s Day? One popular Mother’s Day gift is an iPad, according to a recent TechBargains survey.
- Of 1,500 respondents, 91% said they would prefer an iPad over flowers this Mother’s Day
- 13% of moms want flowers
- 26% of respondents will buy mom flowers
- 31% of moms want a tech gadget
- 11% will get their mom a tech gadget
Seems there is a sizeable gap between what moms want and what they will receive. I suppose that is true of any gift exchange.
For Mother’s Day I bought myself a sterling silver necklace, above, that says “I love Lucy.” I told me husband that I wanted to get a card from him and Lucy. I’m easy to please – partly because I know exactly what I want!

When I was a little girl, I always wanted to do something special for Mother’s Day. Being quite young, I had no money. This posed a problem. I would fret and worry and think and create and each year I came up with something new. They certainly weren’t expensive and they certainly weren’t great works of art, but now that I am a mom, I KNOW that my mom cherished them.
Just in case you are in need of something frugal and full of love for your mother, here are eight ideas. Feel free to use them and sign your name with love to your mom.
- Find a quote book about mothers or love or family at a used book store. Find pages with quotes that ring true to you. Put a picture of you and your mom and a little note about how that quote represents some time you had together. Put little pretty bookmarks on the special pages. The goal of this project is that your mom should get teary-eyed reading your gift.
- Make your mom’s favorite
It’s a tall task thinking up a gift for a great Mom. How can one present possibly express thanks for the loving support and kind words a Mom gives her kid?
Last year I made my Mom a memory jar but this year I’d like to surprise her. I’m brainstorming Mother’s Day gifts to the ideas flowing.
- custom-made T-shirt that celebrates her
- jar of memories of your mom
- hand written letter
- special outing
- help around the house
- surprise visit
- make her a gift basket
- gift card
- lunch/dinner at her favorite restaurant
- phone call or card
- flowers (use a local florist for the best deal)
- poem or book
- spa day
- old photo you found and framed
I wish I could come up with something more original. What do you think makes a good gift for a Mom?
