If you haven’t noticed, we’re on a huge Halloween kick here at BargainBabe.com. This time I’m showing you how to save money on Halloween candy by making your own. I share two candy recipes below — YUM!
We kicked things off a couple weeks ago by asking for your suggestions on what Baby Bargain Babe should be for her first Halloween — there’s still time to share your ideas! Then we showcased pumpkin carving ideas with lots of photos. We also shared 47 Halloween costumes you can make at home. Yours truly also highlighted ways to score cheap Halloween decorations. Phew!
On to the recipes now. I’m a sucker for Snickers chocolate bars. Try this tasty, copycat recipe to share at a party or with trick or treaters.
Ingredients
1 cup marshmallow creme
1 cup creamy peanut butter (not natural)
1 cup soft caramels
1 cup peanuts
2 cups chocolate chips
Directions
Line a pan with foil. Create the nougat layer by mixing the marshmallow cream and peanut butter. Spread into a 1/2-inch thick layer and then place in freezer to stiffen up. Meanwhile, melt caramels in the microwave in 30-second intervals until creamy. Stir in the peanuts or almonds, whichever you prefer. Spread the caramel and peanut mixture over the nougat layer. Set aside to harden for about 45 minutes. To melt the chocolate, use a double boiler or microwave. Make sure to keep an eye on it so it doesn’t scorch! Let it cool slightly. Meanwhile, cut bars whatever size you like. I like to make mine bite size. Then dip each bar until completely coated. Let candy bars firm up in the refrigerator for one hour before serving.
The copycat recipe for Kit Kat Bars is also very simple to make.
Ingredients
2 sleeves graham crackers
2 cups chocolate chips
Directions
Line a pan with parchment paper. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave or double boiler. Then spread a thick layer of chocolate into a rectangle. Place 4 graham crackers on top of the chocolate layer to make the first layer. Continue adding chocolate and graham crackers until you have three layers. Then allow to set up in the refrigerator for about an one hour. After you remove them from the freezer, cut it into thin bars. Warm up the chocolate if necessary and dip each bar until it’s completely coated. Let the bars set up in the fridge for about an hour.
The best part about making your own candy is that you probably have some of the ingredients on hand. If you end up buying them you can use the leftovers to make other yummy recipes.

Homemade candy might be good for friends and family but i wouldnt recomend passing it out to trick or treaters. Most people wont let their kids eat homemade goodies cause they dont know whats in them.

@Logan People actually knock on strangers doors on Halloween? Yikes! I wouldn’t eat their candy even if it was store bought.
Growing up I heard lots of stories of candy having blades or needles in them. I was only allowed to trick or treat with people my family knew — which was fun because they new we were coming and they had the best candy (store bought & homemade).
