It doesn’t matter if I am going to Disneyland for the day or to a local park for a few hours, I always take a thermos of water and a picnic basket with me. If you follow my advice, you can save well over a thousand dollars a year just like I do.
“But Bobbi, why would I go to all that trouble when I am just going on a few errands?” You go to that trouble because if you don’t, you might find yourself spending up to $50 for a nutritious lunch for you and one or two of your kids. (Or $20 for sugar and fast food.) Buy an unplanned meal at a restaurant once or twice a week and you’ve busted your budget for sure.

Update: A reader writes that in order to get into Disneyland for free till June you need to obtain a voucher. The voucher is only available through your local military base. Disneyland does not have the voucher and without it they will not give you free admittance.
Previously: Hanging with the world’s most popular mouse is not cheap, but here’s a discount that really cuts down the expense. Active or retired members of the military can get a free three-day Park Hopper ticket good for Disneyland and California Adventure through June 12, 2009. The same folks can make a one-time purchase of up to five three-day adult or child passes for the price of a 1-day adult Park Hopper ticket.
A similar deal is available for five-day passes at DisneyWorld through Dec. 23, 2009.
