The movie Identity Thief, starting Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, hits theaters today. Identity Thief tells the story of a man whose identity is stolen by a non-threatening looking woman. Bateman’s character then sets out to bring her to justice and the wacky and funny situations ensue.
I’m a big fan of both Bateman and McCarthy and this movie seems hilarious, but identity theft is no laughing matter. It affects millions of people and it takes lots of time to get your credit back on track. If you’re looking to protect your identity, make sure you read all of our advice below!
I’m still on the fence about going to watch the movie in the theaters. Ticket prices are SO ridiculous! Maybe I’ll wait till it hits Redbox, or try one of these twelve ways to save money on movie tickets.
Will you be watching the movie? Do you think this movie makes light of a serious problem? Sound off in the comments!

I’m going tonight. It looks very funny! True identity theft IS a serious problem and isn’t funny to the person it happens to. However, there are a lot of things that in real life are not funny but make it into film plots. I don’t really see any harm in this one.

@Kat Let me know if it’s worth a trip to the movie theater!
Diane says
Absolutely not! Subject matter aside, what I saw in the trailer was juvenile and stupid. Let me ask you the same question, Yazmin.

@Diane What kind of movies do you enjoy, Diane? We watched “50 First Dates” last night with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. It certainly had plenty of gag jokes, but overall it was a sweet and romantic story. Not that I’d watch it again.

@BB ~ I like romantic comedies and witty dialogue that lack ANY physical violence. In movies such as this, it is intended to be comedic. For me, this is an oxymoron; humorous violence? Two examples of what I like are pretty old films, in part because of the scarcity of what I just commented that I like: “Music and Lyrics” with Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant and “Defending Your Life” with Meryl Streep and Albert Brooks. That one is a romantic comedy and fantasy which I really enjoyed.
