This is a guest post by the talented Roxana Oliver, a pet-loving traveler, an environmentalist and blogger from Sydney. She is a proud mom of three: my two silly dogs Brando and Astoria, and my purrfect cat Archibald.
Making a birthday party for your pet presents great opportunity to add some joy to pet’s life and say thank you for all lovely moments. I’m proud owner of two gorgeous dogs, Brando and Astoria, and even though I like to mark their birthdays, over the years I found it expensive to spend bunch of money on glamorous parties. Luckily I found the way how to make it without going into bankruptcy.
Frugal tips for an amazing pet birthday party
Nice but inexpensive decorations
You’ll see that plenty of pet stores offer decorative pieces with great animal themes, but they are more expensive than items I found in those stores which sell everything for a dollar. You can choose a special birthday theme, or, like me, decorate the space with plenty of colorful balloons, tablecloths and plates covered with images of happy dogs’ faces.
I purchased a pack of 20 balloons and plates along with cute cake decorations and wonderful birthday hats for less than 10 dollars. I was short with time, but if you plan earlier, I would suggest making your own birthday hats out of hard paper and colorful paint.
Make the party within your yard
Renting a special venue for pet’s birthday party can be pretty expensive and it may require paying for certain adjustments, so I decided to organize the party outside, within my yard. So, if you have fenced yard, that’s in my opinion the best location for throwing the party, since your pet and its little friends can be free to run around and play. Besides, it’s easier to clean the space, and you don’t have to watch out every step they make.
Money saving gifts options
Although your pet’s birthday is more exciting way to cheer him up, than real celebration of its birth date (most people don’t even know the birth date of their pets, and that’s ok), it would be cute to surprise your pet with nice present. I love giving gifts to my doggies, even when it’s not a birthday, and I found the most convenient and budget friendly way is to buy good dog accessories online, there’s always a bunch to choose and you can find great discounts. This is a chance to buy several useful items at once and get another one free of charge, which is great if you’re your pet’s equipment requires frequent replacements. Also you can always do a DIY project, if you have time for it, there is a lot of fun stuff you can make for your furball!
Dog friendly and budget friendly b-day cake
You can afford your four-leg buddy delicious b-day cake without breaking a bank, if you consider making it by yourself. I wasn’t sure in my cake-making abilities, so I found great recipes on internet, which include ingredients regularly included in my dogs’ nutrition. It was pretty exciting to shape the cake to look like tasty bone, but I also made cute cupcakes based on carrots and cream cheese, which is the way how I saved money on snacks.
Everyone likes birthday parties, our pets as well, and with few DIY ventures, smart considerations and lot of love, we can afford them unforgettably happy moments they will be grateful for.
