Did you know there is a right way to cut up a credit card? Reporter Cynthia Drake shows you how to properly dispose of old credit cards in this CreditCards.com video. These are the same folks Julia works with on her videos. Missed any? Watch BB talk money.
It’s important to properly dispose of old credit cards to avoid identity theft. I usually cut up credit cards — ALL cards, really — so that my name and account numbers are not recognizable. There’s more you can do! Drake shows you what to do. You’ll need a magnet. Remember that the No. 1 secret to stopping identity theft is freezing your credit.

I cut up all old credit cards, address labels, or anything else with any kind of my identity on it, by shredding everything in my shredder, which has a special function for the cards. I also make sure to put the shreds into separate bags to be taken away on different trash pick-up days. So far (knock wood) I haven’t had any problems with identity theft. Hope my luck holds indefinitely, as long as I stay alert!
