It is so dry where I live that even the cactus needs to be watered so I take a bottle of water with me every time I leave the house. After using a ton of different water bottles, I found my favorite – the Contigo Autoseal Water Bottle.
Here’s why I love the Contigo Autoseal Water Bottle and why you should have one, too!
- It is BPA-free, so I am not getting exposed to any toxins.
- The bottles come in different colors. Each member of my family has their own bottle with an identifying color. I’m not endlessly washing water bottles and throwing good water down the drain because we can’t remember whose bottle belongs to who.
- Using this bottle is a one-handed operation. You squeeze a large, flat button on the neck of the bottle. This opens a “slot” were the water comes out when you tilt the bottle to your lips. Let go of the button and the slot is covered up. That’s the “autoseal.”
- The “autoseal” keeps the water from spilling if you drop, jostle or tip the bottle. Yay! No more spills, leaks, or wrestling with lids!
- This one handed operation also means that I don’t have to take off a bottle top when I want to drink. It’s kind of hard to do that when I am driving a car. Because it is so easy to take a drink of water, I tend to drink more and stay more hydrated.
- The other fabulous construction feature of this water bottle is that the top has a clip that allows you to put it on to your purse handle or belt buckle if you don’t want to carry it any more. This is great for mom’s who are always carrying way more than two hands can handle.
- When you unscrew the top, the water bottle has a large mouth. This makes it easy to fill the bottle with ice cubes. I fill mine directly from the ice dispenser in my fridge door.
- The Contigo is strong enough for kids. It’s sturdy construction has kept it from breaking or cracking when I drop it.
- It’s incredibly affordable. I have used this bottle daily for over a year, approximately 300 times. The bottle is currently going for $10.99 on Amazon. So, my Contigo water bottle cost me 4 cents per use.
- I’m saving money using my Contigo water bottle. Even the cheapest 24 oz bottle of water is at least a dollar. So, I have saved at least $289! I would say that this bottle is worth the money.
There are a couple of down-sides to this bottle. They aren’t a big deal to me, but they might be to you, so here they are:
- If you put ice into this container, it will probably condensate on the outside. The manufacturer has come up with a fix for this. They now have an 18 oz. double-walled water bottle. This keeps the bottle from getting condensation. The double-walled bottle is the same size but only holds 18 oz. If the idea of condensation bothers you, then maybe the double-walled bottle would be good for you. You can also just make a little bottle cozy out of a colorful sock which not only would handle the condensation but give you a really great conversation starter.
- Because the bottle is sealed so well, it makes a little spit of water when you open it. It’s kind of funny until you get used to it. The solution is to press the button and unseal the vacuum before you put it up to your face. The kids, on the other hand, will love getting the little squirt of water!
This company does make other kinds of bottles. They make tops that have built in straws. They make tops that you unscrew. They make bigger bottles and 14 oz bottles for kids. But the bottle that I love is the 24 ounce Contigo Water Bottle.

Love my Contigo water bottles! I bought a 3 pack of these at Costco a couple years ago. Can’t remember how much but I’m sure I got a great deal. I don’t know if they still have them. The condensation is an issue but I don’t care, they work great. I’m going to try the sock idea!

@Dawn – Yes, Costco had these bottles. They were there and then, woosh – gone and couldn’t get them anymore. They were replaced with a kind of bottle that was not as good. Bummer. I was so happy when I found them on Amazon.

Bobbi, great timing! It’s been SO hot in LA lately — it’s crazy. I have a Sigg water bottle that I love, but my sis and dad are looking to buy a new one. I recently saw a Brita water bottle at Target that comes with a mini filter for when you need to fill up at a park (or other place where water tastes blah). It costs $18, but you get a $10 Target gift card. You will have to replace the filter. It also has many of the features as the Contigo (as does the pricey Sigg). Has anyone tried the Brita water bottle? I’d love to hear about your experience and a comparison of these three bottles.
Bobbi Burger Brunoehler says
@Yazmin – my daughter has used both of the bottles and she likes the Contigo better because of the holder clip and the one-handed easy-to-use drinkability. We have a water filter on our fridge so the water is already filtered. She did like having the Brita when she was traveling and had to fill the bottle from unfiltered sources, but when she got home, she went back to the Contigo.

For not much more CamelBak waterbottles have all the same features you love, PLUS they have a lifetime warranty. This will save you LOTS of money. I received a new lid for mine when it started leaking. Not sure if Contigo has the same warranty, but if not, CamelBaks may be worth paying a little more for in the long run!
Bobbi Burger Brunoehler says
@Heather Rene – The CamelBak water bottle looks interesting. Unfortunately I don’t like plastic straws as they are super hard to clean. I did look into the lifetime warranty on this product and it is only a lifetime warranty for manufacturer defects, so it is basically a worthless lifetime guarantee. Too bad. Contigo has a one year guarantee on manufacturer defects, so I figure if there is a defect, it will show up in one year. However, none of this should stop anyone from getting a water bottle they like because it saves so much money to take your own water with you instead of buying it while on the road.
From the CamelBak website “CamelBak will repair or replace at its discretion any manufacturing defect in these products free of charge. The Got Your Bak™ Lifetime Guarantee does not cover damage caused by normal wear and tear, accident, combat damage, improper care or cleaning, non-standard usage or negligence. Product must be purchased from an authorized CamelBak dealer.”

The bottle sucks, the clip does not work well so you risk dropping. I held mine by the handle and eventually (less than 1 year) it broke. Get a stainless steel bottle. Don’t buy this crap.

lol “daily for over a year” and “approximately 300 times” are incompatible…
I agree that Contigo bottles are nice, though

I hate this bottle. I bought one about a week ago – just took it out of my lunch bag and half of it spilled – ALL OVER EVERYTHING! what a mess! There is pieces of the supposed seal floating in what is left of the water. I am SO disappointed.

I love my Contigo 40oz water bottle! Now if they would just make a neoprene coozie to fit it and help with that crazy amount of condensation…
