Have extra hangers in your closet? I share 10 easy ways to reuse your hangers. Most of these ideas are easy DIY projects you can get done in an afternoon. Watch the slideshow below to view the suggestions and read on for an explanation!
Open car doors – Who hasn’t locked their keys in their car at some point? Here’s what to do if you don’t have a spare key: Straighten the wire hanger and stick down into the door or window to open.
Baby mobile – This could be a really fun project for an older sibling to make for the new baby. Use the hanger as your base and attach colorful ribbons, stuffed small animals, or even family member’s photos.
Antennas – Use a wire hanger to get radios and televisions to work. Simply straighten the hook and stick it into the broken end of an antenna. Twist and shape it until a decent reception signal comes through.
Costumes – In a pinch, you can use wire hangers to create wings or a halo for costumes. To make wings, shape the hanger and use colorful pantyhose. Add glitter, ribbon, or whatever else your heart desires!
Unclog drains – A straightened wire hanger is great for shoving down a drain to unclog. I’ve done this many times to our bathroom sink to remove hair. Yuck!
Necklace saver – Keep necklaces untangled by hanging them from a wooden hanger. Skip the wire hangers as they may stain. You can even decorate the hanger!
Plant markers – Reuse hangers to make garden plant markers. Just straighten and shape.
Book clam – Reader DDistefano sent in this suggestion. (Thanks, for the post idea!) Use a clamp hanger to keep books open. This is particularly good for when your hands are busy… think recipe books.
Bubble wand – A wire hanger can be shaped into anything and used to make bubbles. This is a cheap and fun activity when you need to entertain kids. Shape the wire hanger and then use liquid detergent mixed with water.
Shoe hanger – Bend up each end of the hanger and it will nicely hold a pair of shoes. This is particularly useful for some of your nicer shoes.

If you dry clean your clothes, take your hangers back and let them be re-used.

I saw a cute thing on Pinterest the other day where you can hang a cute hanger near the door with a ribbon and then hang your sunglasses on it. Brilliant!
