I had a terrible customer service experience at Babies R Us yesterday, and I’ll never shop there again. Here’s what happened.
Weeks ago I purchased three boxes of Lansinoh nursing pads (they keep milk from leaking out of your boobs into your shirt). I quickly realized three boxes was too many, and brought in my online receipt with two of the still unopened, new boxes.
At the return counter, a clerk told me I needed the packing receipt but would call headquarters to get a return number. Meanwhile, I headed to the cloth diaper section and loaded $231 worth of gPants into my cart. (Lucy is almost ready to move up to size medium, 14-26 pounds).

According to a recent USA Today story, many retailers’ return policies are changing and those wanting to make returns must take note. The National Retail Federation indicated retailers estimate that nearly 13 percent of items returned without a receipt are fraudulent and this is why many are hesitant. So what’s their best advice for making a return?
“Approach the salesperson pleasantly, throw yourself upon their mercy and just be polite,” said Tod Marks, senior editor for Consumer Reports to USA Today. “How you carry yourself can be as important as a receipt at this time of year.” (more…)

I am against paying retail. Hence my motto, “Friends don’t let friends pay retail.”
However, sometimes even I have to go to a store and purchase something new. Hey, it happens to the best of us.
Let me assure you that when I do this deed I also ENSURE that I know the store return policy and keep my receipt, packaging and tags. If I am not 100% satisfied with my purchase, I return it.
I am amazed how many times I see items at yard sales, thrift shops and swaps that are brand new with their tags still attached. I always wonder about the economic condition of the seller. Are they wildly wealthy? Did they lose the receipt and figured they couldn’t get their money back? Or did they think it wasn’t worth the trouble?
