Shh! It’s a secret. This weekend I bought my sister’s birthday gift and scored a nice deal. I received an email with a 40% off coupon from the GAP. There was a caveat. The coupon indicated I had to use my GAP card. I’ve been trying to lay off the plastic especially my retail credit cards so I wasn’t very happy about it. Oh, what the heck!

A couple of days ago, I bought what I thought would be a yummy cake from Whole Foods. It was stale. I was torn between complaining and letting it go.
I had paid $43 for a pumpkin sponge cake with cream cheese frosting that looked delish in the display case. I was splurging for a get-together.
When it was time to cut the cake, I had a hard time getting the knife through it. UGH! I was so disappointed and embarrassed.

I had a bad experience at a hotel recently, and didn’t keep quiet about it. Neither should you.
A couple of weeks ago, I went “glamping” (glamorous camping) with my daughter. A bunch of families camped out on the beach, but sleeping on the ground wasn’t doing it for me. I booked a hotel near the camp site so could spend time with my friends camping, but sleep on a good mattress. I snagged a good rate using the online special and my AAA discount.
When bedtime came, I went into the hotel to get my pre-confirmed room. It was between the pool entrance and the gym. I could hear the thump thump thump of

I saved $49.38 at Old Navy's Stuff & Save sale.

This past weekend my sister and I headed to the mall in search of a graduation dress for her and a couple of gifts. We ended up at Old Navy where we found an adorable dress. Although I’m reluctant to use retail credit cards because of their high interest rates, I was delighted to score a discount when I charged my Old Navy card.
I intended to pay with cash but the sales associate asked if I wanted to save 20% on my purchase.
“Oh, I already have an Old Navy card,” I responded. I didn’t know they were having their Stuff & Save promotion were you get 20% off of anything you can stuff into an adorable reusable bag.
“If you charge this purchase, you’ll get the discount.”
“Really?”

An Express clerk helped me save $30 on this dress and scarf.
In one week I had two amazing customer service experiences at REI and The Express that saved me $40. Perhaps more importantly, these clerks endeared me to their stores, guaranteeing that I will return again. Has customer service influenced your spending?
At REI I was returning a too-small snowboard helmet when the clerk offered to check if a medium was available.
“Sure!”
She found one at an REI warehouse.
“You probably want free shipping to your house, huh?”
“If you can do it, absolutely!”
“Let’s add on raspberry energy chews to your order. You’ll get free shipping that way.”
“Okay!”
I walked away moments later with a new helmet in the mail having paid no restocking fee, no return fee, and no shipping fee. I spent an extra $1.49 on energy chews, and saved $10 in shipping. Score!
A few days later at The Express I found an adorable dress for a party coming up. It was $69.99 and – gasp – I did not have a coupon. So embarrassing! I asked a clerk if she had any coupons and she quickly
