I share five must read blog posts about saving money every Friday.

This is a post I’ve been meaning to write forever. The coupon policies of Target, Walgreens, Walmart, Kmart, and CVS. Luckily, PennyPinchinMom has it covered!
Melissa at Saving Cents with Sense has a stalwart policy against buying generic. It may change your mind about my recent post on the value of generic food stuffs.

Consumer Reports names the two worst credit cards on the market. One has an interest rate of 59.9%! If anyone has such poor credit that this is all they qualify for, you are better off dealing with cash.

Boy, oh boy! That article about “whiners” who are always broke (I call them poor mouthers) really rang a bell! Those are the people who are “always broke” yet always seem to have money for unnecessary luxuries (Starbucks, anyone?). I am aware of coupon policies at most stores, and have always figured that choosing between store or brand name products depended on using common sense, based on price and label contents. Should be a DUH situation. That’s what coupons are for. If the coupons don’t offset the difference in cost, then use common sense! This is an entry/site that should be read by anyone who’s having problems deciding the issues, especially the young who don’t have as much experience as the “more mature” among us. Thanks to BB for providing such good info for all.
I used to work for a company that packed honey for Trader Joes. TJs works very hard to get the product they want and will change suppliers/processors if they don’t make the grade. I don’t always like some of the items they sell flavor-wise but I do trust their quality.
On the other hand, I buy Springfield (generic) mayonnaise and to my taste compares favorably with much more expensive brands. I did a test one time, bought all the available brands (and no-brand) of canned tomatoes. A generic had more tomatoes to fluid ratio and the flavor was comparable. Now, I just shake the can. The one that has less swishing noise goes in my shopping cart.
I shop at Smart & Final (which used to be mainly for wholesale customers) and their 1st Street brand items have always been very satisfactory and cost less than name brands even at the box stores. BIG savings on cleaning products (in the large sizes). Downside?
They’re only in Arizona, California and Nevada.
Thanks for the roundup. I know someone who constantly whines about being broke but in truth, he’s only short of cash because he spends way too much on ridiculous things! He has the money, but is a spendthrift.
@The Digerati Life Yes, I think almost everyone knows someone like this!
