The seasons are changing and that means it’s a great time to buy certain items that are going out of style (at least for another 8 months). Hot spring items – like seeds – are often priced competitively enough that it is a good time to buy them, too.
Great items to buy now
Airplane tickets (Southwest and Virgin America are just two of the airlines heavily discounting spring travel)
Coats, Gloves, Hats, Mittens, Scarfs
Humidifiers
Long johns, underclothes
Seeds
Snow shovels, rock salt for de-icing sidewalks
Ski and Snowboard gear and equipment (Check your local REI, sporting goods store, or ski rental shop for sales)
Soup (the grocery sales have been great on Progresso and Campbells in particular)
Snowblowers (retailers need to make room for summer BBQs and patio furniture)
Sweaters (check out the J.Crew 30% off sale – tons of warm weather stuff. Case in point, I snagged a cashmere sweater for $35 that was originally $74.)
Toboggans, sleds, and plastic snow discs
A Jan. 2010 sales calender from Consumer Reports also adds houses, condos, indoor furniture, treadmills, and elliptical machines to the list.
