My self-imposed gift card challenge – spend all 9 of my cards worth $431 before the new year – is not going so well. One down, eight to go. Here are my plans:
Anthropologie – $91.04. Should be easy to spend as me and my sisters luuuuv their clothes. I just need to make time to shop!
CVS – $12.04. I’m going to use this for a gift basket for one of my sisters. Through Tuesday there are some great deals at CVS, including:
- Essence of Beauty Bath and Body $4.99; Earn 4 ECBs Limit 2, Pay $0.99 each after ECBs
- Revlon Cosmetics or Beauty Tools (psa $1.99); Spend $15 Earn 7 ECBs Limit 1, Use $2/1 coupon from the 11/15 SS insert or $1/1 Beauty Tool from the 11/15 SS insert, Free after coupon
- Neosporin Lip Health $5.49, Use $2.50 off CVS Clip-Free coupon, Use $3/1 Printable HERE (IE) or HERE (FF), FREE after coupons
Dollar Tree – $20. There is one two miles from my house, gosh dang it. Perhaps I’ll use it to buy new holiday decorations.
SPENT! Gelsons – $20. I can’t bring myself to shop at this overpriced grocery store, so I gave the card to a friend to buy groceries for a turkey dinner we cooked. She bought a sweet potato pie, which we have yet to eat.
J. Crew -$211. I’d love a new pair of chords or maybe a cashmere sweater.
Jo Anns – $4.37. I’m going to add money to this card and gift it to a crafty friend of mine.
Marie Callender’s – $10. I could use this to buy a pie for a holiday party.
Old Navy – $12.46. The clearance rack is calling me.
TJ Maxx – $50. BINGO! TJ Maxx is great for gifts because there is a wide range of items for sale.
Meanwhile, I acquired a $5 Starbucks gift card, but I don’t think I’ll have any trouble using it. Hmmm, lattes.

Go to the Chelsea Outlets Page and print out coupons for the J. Crew Outlet and visit the outlets in Camarillo 30 minutes north. You can find all the other stores mentioned nearby as well.
I will help you spend them. I’m imagining a pre-xmas shopping spree! Woowee!
I forget I have them in my wallet. I don’t have that many but there’s one or two and I don’t remember if I’ve used any of the card. What I’m good at is using my Office Depot, Staples and Ralph’s money back certificates when they come. I need some advice on how to keep track of the generic ones.
i keep the ones i get untill the after holiday sales nothing better than cheep bras and lotion from victoras secret oer bath and body there the only ones i usally get mabey walmart then its movie night
CHeck out the sales at Old Navy now. Great shirts for men only $8.
Right now I have 300.00 for VS, 250.00 for DSW, ? for Best Buy and 150K THANK YOU points on my Citi card.
I suppose I like knowing they are there if needed!
FYI – hold onto those gift cards after you use them especially the “collector” ones like Target & Starbucks. I sell mine on ebay for a buck or two each with no cash value on the cards 🙂
Have a Barnes & Noble $50 card from last XMAS. Have been near or walked pass more than 10 times the B&N at the mall, but did not have the time to go in and browse, and I am retired, so what does that say?.
Sometimes it’s difficult to use gift cards – I hate getting them!! My current problem is an American Express gift card that wasn’t properly activated. Then hasn’t been fixed properly that I can spend the rest of the amount. What a hassle!!
