Just one week until the Frugal Festival Summer Swap June 19. I am so excited! Goodies and prizes from sponsors WalletPop, Savings, Lozo.com, Free Fun La, Holiday Inn Santa Monica, Yelp, Restaurant.com, and others are arriving everyday. We just got word at Mani-Kir Royal salon is raffling off a $25 gift certificate!
I’m making a stash of my stuff to swap, including…
- Two pairs of pumps, including one pair I wore twice five years ago. Psst, it’s okay to swap/buy used shoes.
- A gently-used copy of California Camping by Tom Stienstra
- A brand new pair of size 8-9 hot pink animal stripped slippers, above
- A handful of tops, blouses, sweaters, and other clothes
- A slim leather black belt with white stitching (actually, I’m on the fence about this)
What are you going to swap?
Details: the swap is June 19, 1-3 p.m. at the NoHo Performing Arts Center, 11020 Magnolia Blvd in North Hollywood. Drop off is 10-noon same day. Tickets $5 if you have swappables, $10 if not, or $15 for a VIP ticket. Tickets sold exclusively through Goldstar.
Do you have a favorite site to compare grocery store prices?
I’m bringing a new coffeemaker, an unused magnifying mirror for the bathroom (it has suction cups on the back), good-as-new tee shirts, and some gently worn shoes (plain pumps with med-low heels). That’s all I can think of for now… depends on whether I shake off my usual procrastination and really weed out my “stuff.”
@tina GroceryGuide.com is pretty good. You can compare the prices of two stores at a time. I use it when I am looking for something specific like the prices of a whole chicken. I usually just stick to the advertisements that we get every week.
Just exactly how does the swap work?
Thanks!
@Carolyn Good question! You can come to the swap whether you have stuff to swap or not. We offer a $5 discount to everyone who brings clothes, media and housewares to swap. Empty-handed tickets are $10. A limited number of $15 VIP tickets are available.
Each swapper receives a reusable bag to stuff with their finds. Unlike some one-for-one swaps, you may take home whatever looks good to you. Good deal, huh?
See you there!

@Melanie Thank you! I just ran out and bought two copies (one for my Mom)! If you pick up an issue, turn to page 125 & 126. The first picture is my favorite.
