Just wondering why some of the links in your daily blog/newsletter are double-underlined and pink, while others are not underlined and red? I’m asking because the other day, I clicked on a link and a pop-up ALERT come up warning me that malicious malware had been put on my computer (because I clicked on the link) and I immediately needed to call 1-866-412-7891 to fix the problem. This experience makes me leery to click on any links in your blog/newsletter.
@Debbie Thanks for letting me know about this. Links that are double underlined are advertisements. You have to be really careful about ads that warn about malware. Often THEY ARE the malware, and you call or click or sign up, share your credit card or other sensitive info, and you’ve been scammed. If you get a malware warning, I would not click on it. Instead, run your own internal systems checks to scan for viruses. I will check with my ad partner to make sure these kinds of ads are not shown again. They definitely should not have been shown in the first place!
I asked much the same thing a long time ago–I didn’t know what the double underlined links were for (probably after clicking on one), and Dacia explained, as you just did, that they were ads. But I knew nothing about malware in connection with these ads. Fortunately, I haven’t clicked on any since.
