Karen sent me a saving tip I have never heard of!
I am new to your site so maybe you’ve discussed this idea in the past but here’s what we’re doing to save for a big vacation: This idea is not original either – I read it in an AARP article – but it is really working for us.
We are planning on heading to Australia in February for our 25th Anniversary. Realizing both airfare and spending money are the big ticket items for us (we’re trading our timeshare – so very little cost involved in the housing end) I read this idea and we have really employed/enjoyed it.
The article talked about saving dollar bills with certain letters that mean something to the saver. Every dollar bill has a letter in a circle on the left hand side. Right now “L” seems to be the one’s that are being issued. However, it’s fun and challenging to get and save those dollar bills with letters other than “L”. We decided to save our name initial letters (C & K)…and then we opened up to any earlier issue letters.
As of today we have saved $200 in singles and we’ve only been saving two months. May not seem like much but every bit helps. It’s nothing you have to go out of your way for – just look at change you receive whenever you pay cash for something. It truly is all in the hunt, great fun and an easy way to save a little extra cash!!
I just checked my wallet, and I have one dollar bills that start with the letter “A” and “B”. Karen, I think you should start saving bills with an “A” for Australia.
