If you haven’t heard, Groupon is rolling out a program for those that want to be the first to score deals. The daily deal site is offering Groupon VIP by invitation only and will cost $29.99 a year.
I’m curious. Have you received an invitation? I haven’t. I don’t use Groupon often enough to be considered a loyal customer. So what are the benefits?
- Early access – Members will get deals 12 hours before the regular buyers.
- Access to expired deals – The plan provides access to a Deal Vault for previously closed and sold-out deals.
- Instant refunds – Members will also be able to receive refunds in Groupon Bucks at any time on eligible daily deals even if they’re expire.
The benefits are not enticing enough for me to fork over money to save. I’ve never missed a deal I needed because I’m good at monitoring the site. Same goes for expired deals. I pounce on them before it’s too late.
The site is currently offering a three-month free trial to those that received invites, but the program is bound to go public to attract other active deal seekers. Living Social has apparently been testing a similar program called Plus, according to the Chicago Tribune. Would you pay to get more access to daily deals?
