Ladies, if you’re sending your man to the grocery store you may be spending more on groceries. I recently saw a feature on the Today Show about men taking over shopping duties. And, guess what? The grocery stores are taking notice!
An increase of items geared towards men are popping up at grocery stores. Beer, beef, and men’s grooming products are a few of the items store are stocking up on. Remember my post about how it costs more to be a women?
Well, men are shelling out more money when they make a grocery store run. That’s because they are more likely to pay full price. Men’s Health Senior Contributing Editor Matt Bean said in the feature that men are also bigger impulse buyers and are more mission oriented.
To help you stay on budget, train your man before sending him off to the grocery store. The best way to do this is to have him follow you around on a trip. Show him the layout of the store. A while back, I showed my dad where to find the almost expired bread that’s steeply discounted. Rule of thumb: Tell your guy to shop the perimeter of the store and stay away from the center.
Another area to avoid is the aisle ends where you’ll commonly find beer, sodas and chips on display. These areas are generally reserved for sale items, but they won’t know if they’re getting the best price if they don’t price compare.
Another way to help your man save money on groceries is to coupon clip for him. There aren’t many men who do this and that’s why they’re paying full price. Make sure to also hand him a list before heading to the store. Be specific about what you want. Jotting down fruit can mean different things to different people. He may come home with fruit doused in syrup.
I do the shopping for my family. Who does the grocery shopping for your household? Who’s better on staying on budget when you head to the store?
