We’ve actually tried the food boxes at Angel Ministries, and I can guarantee you that one box will only last a family of 4 about a week or so.
Note about the food: heavy on the carbs & not exactly superior meat cuts, but you can do a lot with it if you can cook. Each box always includes eggs, shelf-stable milk and a dessert,
Not a bad deal if you’re having financial difficulties and need a temporary boost.
Here’s the link to their current “menu”:

BTW, not available in all areas so YMMV.
@Barbara H. Thanks for sharing your experience with Angel Ministries. I was doubtful that a $30 box really lasts 30 days but have not tried it myself. Anybody else have experience with this service?
@Kayla Bummer, I hope you got one before it ran out. It’s common for a freebie to revert to a coupon when it runs out.
My Daughter and her family are in the USMC and they run short on funds at times she uses the Angelfood Ministeries a lot. She even posted it to a Camp Pendelton Underground site and many of the wives have used them quite a bit. My daughter said itis worth the money
I agree with barbara in that its not really a months worth of food. Its more like about 10 days worth if you do it right.
That said, a lot of the things you get are less expensive than what you’d pay for the same things in most groceries without coupons. With coupons it get closer but is still ok. Barb is also right that the meats tend to be “economy” type cuts but then again, you don’t have to eat filet mignon every night either. Not like we do-lol
All in all, its a good thing to supplement your grocery trips and save some money in the meantime.
I tried Angel Food for the first time a few months ago.
I wasn’t impressed with the selection or the cost. By shopping weekly sales with coupons, I can easily get more bang for my buck while purchasing items that I want—not ones that are chosen for me.
The site actually says $30 worth of food will last “seniors” a month; otherwise, it’s $30 worth of food that will feed a family of four for a week as Barbara H mentioned.
I totally accept Angel Food Ministries and treasurebox.org for what it’s worth. It is to assist struggling families stretch their food bill dollars. I am a great cook and I have made wonderful dishes with the food that I have purchase. No complaints here.
The Angel Food Ministries program was introduced into the State of Louisiana over 6 years ago, here in Sulphur, LA by the Church of Christ located here. They even drove to Texas to get the bulk food. Now the big trucks come directly to the new fellowship and A.F.M. distribution building.
The food quantity, variety and quality is always improving, and the low cost does mean a savings. The amount save will vary by what is included and where you might live; but 50% PLUS is very realistic. An older couple , with some planning will have a 3-4 week pantry to choose from and a family of 4 will definitely eat well for a week with pantry items for next month. I have personally been able to work with several hundred folks, telling them about this excellent program every month for this 6 year period. It is is magnificent effort to be of value to others.
I have been using treasure box which is $30.00 per box – check the site each month to see what is the best deal Protein Box (meats only) or Treasure Box which includes other items. Supplement with coupons, sale items and pantry items. Makes ours last for a couple of weeks. (1 mom, 2 preteen boys)
It does help with our food budget !! They also have a Holiday Box for November
