This is one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. A blog called Scavenging has step-by-step directions to turn your credit card into a bracelet, ring, or earrings. Check it out! Below is one of their creations.
Cynthia Drake from Credit Cards.com also shares tips on how to make fun crafts out of discarded credit cards! She explains how to make a bracelet, earrings, a guitar pic, and even a pin.
To make a guitar pic, you just trace an outline of an old pic onto an old credit card. Then you cut out the shape…and bam! Your guitar pic is done. Be sure to watch the video to learn how to make her other three creations.
Here are a few other craft ideas for old credit cards:
1) Credit Card Mosaic – If you are going through and old wallet and find a ton of old rewards cards, credit cards, and other plastic pieces you can use them to make a fun piece of art. This would also be a great way to bond with kids (who are old enough to use scissors of course) by making one giant art piece together. Simply cut out different shapes from the credit cards and glue them at random or in a pattern onto a canvas. You can look online for inspiration or just go with the flow.
2) Make a Bookmark – I still read books in hardcopy (call me old fashioned but sometimes I prefer real pages to my Kindle’s screen) so I’m still in need of bookmarks. To make a bookmark out of a credit card all you need to do is cut a V into the face of card. Then the V can be on one side of the page and the rest will be on the other. Of course you could use the card as is too, but it might fall out.
3) Make a Flower Box Magnet – WikiHow has a step by step process for turning your old credit cards into a cute flower box magnet. All you need for this craft is your old credit card, scissors, tape/masking tape, and fun fillers. This is a unique idea and could be a great gift.
I don’t have that many credit cards or rewards cards that I’m throwing away, so I’m not sure if I’ll be trying out these crafts anytime soon. But, the next time I come across an expired gift or rewards card you can bet I’ll try a few of these. What do you think?
What a GREAT idea.
It would also make a great necklace using multiple cards and beads.
Is this idea only for people who have given up their cards?
I wouldn’t think so…as I stare at my expired debit/atm card… (the bank just sent a new one with a later expiration date). What else would you do with the old plastic but toss it (after cutting it up into small pieces) into the trash.
