My CVS Extra keychain thingy.
How much can you save at a drugstore in a year? A lot if you are my friend Meital, who shared her yearly savings from CVS. Curious how the CVS reward program compares to Walgreens and Rite Aid? I made a chart comparing the chain drugstore loyalty programs. CVS didn’t fare that well, actually!
Hey Julia,
I just got this in my email. Pretty cool! LOVE to see my savings in a statement like this- this is probably why I keep shopping at CVS rather than Rite Aid or Walgreens. This may give you an idea for a blog post. My favorite part of this my “sale price savings”! Others probably shop at CVS a lot more (so their #’s in savings would be a lot more than mine), but I’m a student so don’t spend as much of course-but still why i love my savings (clearly defined).xoxo,
-Meital
Here is how CVS broke down her savings in an email:
Dear Meital, You earned $208.34 in rewards over the last 12 months by using your ExtraCare card.
ExtraBucks Rewards Earned:
- Quarterly ExtraBucks (Printed on your receipt Jan, April, July, Oct) $9.50
- Weekly Ad Items $18.80
- Sale Price Savings (From using ExtraCare card) $115.76
- ExtraCare Coupons (Redeemed) $64.28
- Total Rewards $208.34
Savings and rewards above based on cardholder use from 8/1/10 through 7/31/11.
How much are you saving at the drugstore?
I love CVS! So far this year I have saved 1951.18 as of 9/20. And that is from only stopping by once or twice a week (it’s about three blocks from my house.) I haven’t gotten one of those fancy emails yet. This is just what has printed out on my most recent receipt.
I decided to do an experiment. I would take the amount of money I would spend if the item were not on sale. Whatever I had left after my CVS trip would go into a “vacation fund” jar. From two trips, I’ve already put $94 in the jar. Maybe I’ll finally get to go on a cruise. LOVE my CVS card!!
@Laura That’s a great way to save because it motivates you to save even MORE. I knew a lady who set aside the money her children saved with grocery coupons for them to spend on a big ticket item like an iPod. Very savvy way to teach kids about money!
Great shopping, ladies! I love reading stories like this. It is inspiring to consumers to see they can save money on things they need to purchase. Keep up the good savings.
Cool! I love this article! Even for milk and cereal I go to CVS because I get sweet savings, deals, and coupons eventually. They may not have a large selection of cereal, but i’m flexible. Altho captain crunch, is by far the best!
🙂
Andi, u don’t mean mean 10 days ago, do u? If so, thats pretty sweet!
Meital, that was a running total of what I have saved since the first of the year so it took me almost ten months to save that much money.
