One way to get famous and rich is to become a reality TV star. Once you are a star, people want to give you lots of free stuff and have you show up at their parties and openings. Plus, the food on a TV set is usually REALLY good. Think of all the money you would save.
If this is one of your dreams, here are five links to find out who is casting and some of the shows that they are currently casting:
- The Learning Channel (TLC) – currently casting for Outrageous Kids Parties, What the Sell, The Next Great Baker and Extreme Couponing
- MTV – currently looking for brides, young single fathers, and overweight high school students
- CBS – casting Survivor, Big Brother and The Amazing Race
- NBC – looking for the best a cappella groups, people who know how much things cost and the next big name in fashion
- ABC – casting for Wipe Out, The Bachelor and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

My husband and I were on “Weekend Warriors” a home improvement show on HGTV a few years ago. We fed the crew at our house and got paid $500 for the experience of having them film our DIY garage makeover that would have been done in 2 weeks but took 3 months due to the crew’s shooting schedule! Overall, though, it was a lot of fun and a great experience!
Please be aware when considering a home makeover type of show that you will be asked to sign away many of your rights and protections. You are responsible for any injuries occurring on your property, other than gross negligence on the part of the production company. You will not be able to approve any designs nor can you get a remedy from the production company if they do shoddy work or cause serious damage to the structure.
These shows are also scripted, and are often edited to make folks look foolish for the sake of entertainment. Make sure you read the fine print of any contracts. And remember that this is television – be aware of what you say and do, because it will be held against you.
@Wendy Did you have a bad experience with a TV show – or heard about someone who did? I agree it is important to read contracts, just curious if you had first hand experience.
