Readers shared a wide range of experiences with Angel Food Ministries, which sells boxes of groceries that retail for about $65 for $30. (I mentioned AM in a post Friday.) The box is supposed to feed a family of four for a week or a senior citizen for an entire month.

We’ve actually tried the food boxes at Angel Ministries, and I can guarantee you that one box will only last a family of 4 about a week or so.
Note about the food: heavy on the carbs & not exactly superior meat cuts, but you can do a lot with it if you can cook. Each box always includes eggs, shelf-stable milk and a dessert,
Not a bad deal if you’re having financial difficulties and need a temporary boost. Here’s the link to their current “menu”:

BTW, not available in all areas so YMMV.

I tried Angel Food for the first time a few months ago.
I wasn’t impressed with the selection or the cost. By shopping weekly sales with coupons, I can easily get more bang for my buck while purchasing items that I want—not ones that are chosen for me.

I am a co-host site director in VA for Angel Food Ministries. I have personally purchased food boxes for over two years not because we are financially strapped but because of the food and value we get each month. The fruit and veggie boxes are AWESOME!!!.
We have people from all walks of life purchasing Angel Food month after month and they are all not needy. These boxes of food are a “hand up” not a hand out!!!!!
Each regular food box has lots of frozen vegetables and meats.
