Want to make your jeans last longer? You could wash them less often. My trick: Freezer-freshen your jeans!
It’s simple. All you need is access to a freezer and a plastic bag. After several wears, remove any debris and fold your jeans so that they fit in the bag.
Then make room in your freezer and leave them there for a minimum of 30 minutes. The cold temperature will kill the bacteria and odors magically disappear.
You may be thinking this is disgusting (my sister did), but it really works and it helps you save money on laundry.
I found the video below on YouTube. It’s from the GAP and the guy shows you how to freeze your jeans. Note that he says to turn them inside out — I skipped this step and got the same results.
This method of cleaning jeans is perfect for expensive designer jeans. Don’t have designer jeans? Fake them. Watch Julia demonstrate how to get designer jeans for $20.
Dark wash jeans will also keep their color. My sister and I are big fans of dark wash jeans as they’re slimming and can easily be dressed up or down.
I first tried this method on her jeans. She was skeptical. Then we removed them from the freezer, let them come to room temp and inspected them. They weren’t stinky!
We’ve been freezing our jeans for some time now and only toss them in the laundry when they are heavily soiled.
How do you keep your dark denim jeans from fading? Would you consider freezer-freshing your jeans or are you too disgusted by it?
