Today I am unveiling an exciting new website – BargainBabeLA.com!
This site helps people save money in their neighborhood using Google maps. Current deals on the site include free yoga classes on the Santa Monica beach, a $1 grocery sale in Buena Park, and $6 Angels tickets. Wahoo!
The most exciting part about BargainBabeLA.com is that EVERYONE can share a deal, be it a clothing sale they spot on their drive to work, a restaurant discount they come across while ordering take out, or a free event coming up nearby. The goal is for everyone to be able to get the deal you saw!
After you register on the site you can start sharing your favorite deals. You’ll see a few of my ardent bargain hunting friends have already shared their favorite deals. Remember to add a location for your deal otherwise the software randomly locates your deal in the ocean. No joke, a friend shared a deal that ended up off the coast of Africa. If it’s a chain store, pick one of their locations in the LA region like Culver City, Glendale, or Sherman Oaks.
I’m installing a cool box on the upper right hand of BargainBabe.com to remind you of the exciting deals on BargainBabeLA.com. Click on it to visit the new site.
If you live outside of LA and are insanely jealous, email me. Maybe we can start a deal site in your city.
what a fantastic site! thank you!
Woot woot! I’m glad you like it!!!
Julia, congrats valley girl! This is a great idea, truly democratic. I was thinking of something as well and don’t know if your site would be appropriate platform. Wouldn’t it be great if you could work with all the stores (narrow it down to groceries perhaps) in area and download the prices on a bunch of items so that you could compare say Ralphs vs Albertsons vs Vons vs Jons vs Vallarta and then plan your shopping trip accordingly to get the best deals? Iknow it would be a logistical nightmare, developing relationship with store managers for price info on a weekly basis, but it would be a great thing to have! I spend a lot of time comparing prices and figuring out which will save me the most in time, gas and hard cash. keep up the good work!
YES! I’m really excited about this. We’ve been needing a site like this!
A note re: grocery shopping. The Albertsons at Sherman Way and Van Nuys Blvd. is now a Lucky market, which features “Farmers Market Wednesdays.” Prices on produce are greatly reduced (I recently got cucumbers for 11 cents each, and nectarines for 68 cents a pound), and the variety is good. Meat specialties are on Thursdays.
A suggestion for shoppers: Keep a notepad with you to record best prices for things you regularly purchase. For instance, I prefer to buy my cereal at Trader Joe’s, because it’s cheaper there than at supermarkets. Plan shopping trips only when you really need to shop.
This is a great tip, Ellie. I hope you’ll share it on BargainBabeLA.com so others can benefit.
looking forward to finding new bargains!
I’m out in Agoura/Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks area–please don’t lump us with SF and Simi–we’d spend $ on gas to check out those deals…..we’ve got enough bargain shoppers out this way so please consider a new section for us!!
Hi Jan, you have a good point. Agoura/Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks, the SF and Simi Valleys cover a lot of ground. To make BargainBabeLA.com accessible and practical I split the greater LA area into eight sub-regions. For now, this makes sense. As the site grows, however, I will keep your request in mind.
Awesome job! I love your surprise, what a great new site!
Love it! I also think the San Fernando Valley should be divided up. If you live in the West Valley, you probably aren’t likely to drive 15+ miles to North Hollywood for a deal – UNLESS it’s fabulous and something you desperately need. I’m thinking East and West SFV with the 405 as the divider.
Yes, I am insanely jealous. Will probably be e-mailing you about DC.
Great, I can hardly wait till July 26. See you there!
Well, SO_CAL_RETAIL_SLUT has been very busy so far in 2009, and just back from a quick (but fun) trip to my home of New York City, which again has not left me with the time needed for my looooong posts (lol) on Bargain Babe. I know, sorry for everyone!
I am very, very pleased that Julia has expanded Bargain Babe to be more specific for areas of her old reporting stomping grounds.
I don’t like that Santa Clarita is lumped with the Antelope Valley (two very different areas, both in terms of distance and demographics), but the Valley is lumped in with Simi Valley, and the Conjeo Valley is missing. With enough persuasion, maybe Bargain Babe will re-visit those areas and divy them up in a different manner.
I’ve been so busy traveling, I haven’t been able to begin my “expansion”, but I promise it’s almost ready. I can’t wait!
SO_CAL_RETAIL_SLUT–Expanding Soon!
Ohhh, I’m intrigued. You’ve got your own expansion in store?! Do tell!!
Love the new website!
Great to have SO_CAL_RETAIL_SLUT back again. Will you be around for the big party July 26?
Good suggestion to divide the SF valley using the 405 as the dividing line. Seems that the best deals are in the West valley – don’t forget us in the East valley!!
I am all about deals, especially deals on local restaurants, car repair service, beauty salons or whatever. If your in Virginia you can check out a real cool website http://www.cheaplocaldeals.com. I saved a fortune there. Also, check out the Entertainment book sold by many baseball groups.
Martha, do you live in VA, or here in LA? My brother lives in VA, and I wonder whether he’d be interested in that site.
Note to Julia: Have you considered making the West Valley extend from the 405 to Calabasas off-ramp on the 101? Anything west of that off the 101 could be a separate bargain area. My son, who works in Calabasas, sometimes has lunch in Thousand Oaks, and knows some good restaurants with reasonable prices out that way. Also the East/Central Valley could stretch from the 405 to Vineland, with another area east of there to include Burbank and Glendale.
Simi Valley/Moorpark should have their own area. Does any of this make sense?
