Yesterday I parted with $.99 to download Boggle onto my iPhone, the second time I’ve ever paid for an app. Already, I’ve played Boggle for two hours, steadily increasing my scores from the low 20s to a high of 36.
I felt guilty about the purchase because there are sooo many free apps. On the other hand, I can afford $.99 for good, clean fun. And besides, the free knock-off version of Boggle stank.
I asked my Facebook friends if buying apps was frugal or cheap.
Jason said the purchase made me “Frugal, cheap would get getting someone else to get them for you.”
Jessica said “Discerning!”
Bonnie said “Frugal for sure, especially considering how many apps are available.:-)”
Eugene said “I’ve only ever paid for 2 myself: Colbert’s ‘the Word’ app, and This American Life. Considering I’ve barely ever used them, I doubt I’ll ever buy another!”
Bob said “…or….just not that into apps, … perhaps!”
Do you pay for apps? How many have you purchased?
PS. I plan to break into the 40-point zone soon!
Hey if you enjoy it then it is worth the money!!!! (Just dont let it take time away from all your fans on here)!!!!
I have paid for 4 or 5. I also prefer free ones. Love Boggle. That may be one I’d buy, but I am trying not to be on the phone playing games for too long each day. Rather be reading.
@ilene karpman I agree! I try to read a little bit every night before bed instead of getting sucked into Boggle.
I have only paid for 1 app. I have plenty of free apps on my phone
I have bought 5 – 10 apps. I have an iPhone and an iPad and use them both LOTS. I think that the amount I have spent in games, utilities and note taking apps is minimal compared to the time I have used them.
I also have tons of free apps downloaded, but sometimes the free version is no good.
There’s an app for Boggle??? Love the original game, will probably like the app. Anyway, yes, I’ve paid for apps, probably about a dozen, none more than $1.99, the game Tetris, is the only game I’ve purchased. Most others have been travel.
@Jennifer Yes, the Boggle app is awesome. I’m so glad I bought it. You can replay games, and compete against a friend with “pass ‘n play.” Boggle gives you both the same set of letters, tracks scores, and shows you all the words available, highlights the ones you got. Try it and let me know what you think!
I pay for some apps but it depends what it is. I think it’s from back when I first started high school and was buying lots of ring tones because they were only “$1.99” and it really started to add up. Now I’m cautious.
I have yet to pay for an app. I’m sure I’ll come across one at some point that will be worth it. 🙂
I just got my first smartphone a couple weeks ago so I’m excited about using apps! There are plenty of free ones though, so I’m still looking through those and I doubt I’ll buy one unless it’s something I can’t live without. Especially not games, I got a few free ones to play when I’m stuck somewhere with a few free minutes, but I try not to make gaming a habit because I end up wasting too much time.
