My credit card bill is due in a few days and while reviewing my charges from the past month I found one that I really wish I could take back. While stopping at California winery for a tasting in July, I bought a handmade vintage mini-quilt to hang in my office. The cloth, folded so a fourth of it shows above, can also be used as a table covering.
Purchase price? $37.89.
The cloth has picket fence edges and the material is very sturdy and soft. I like thinking that a woman used her creativity to sew a beautiful work of art that is entirely practical.
When I inspected the cloth more closely at home, however, I found a small stain and realized four circular embellishments were added to cover an inch-long rip. You can see one of the embellishments in the top right corner of the photo. I still adore the vintage cloth, but I think I could have found something similar at a thrift store or flea market for less than $10.
So if there is one credit card purchase I regret this past month, it is this mini-quilt. I was a bit tipsy when I made the purchase, and saw so many cute things in the shop (like cherry earrings for $10) I wanted to take home something. The earrings were only worth $5 to me, but maybe if I had bought those I would have passed on the cloth. At least I didn’t splurge for the vintage $25 waist apron. It was so adorable I never would have worn it!
What do you regret buying this month?
I think I would have contacted the Winery and complained.
A pair of Puma soccer cleats that I won’t be using for along time. I blew out my ankle in May and I’m still in a walking boot.
My doctor said no soccer for 6 months after I get out of the boot (a few more weeks!) but I still bought new cleats. Soon enough it’ll be too cold out to be playing outdoor soccer : (
Yes, I would have contacted someone at the winery too. But if you’re happy with it, I think that’s all that matters.
Pretty much everything I put on my credit card I regret after. My bill is ridiculously ginormous. I have had a credit card since I was 17 and never ever had debt like this, until I married my dear Hubby. The most regretful purchase was 5 years ago on our Honeymoon. Punch drunk in wedded bliss we stupidly said yes to a timeshare. Dumb , dumb, dumb,so every month when that credit card bill comes I throw up a little bit in mouth . :O)
I regret buying a pair of suede flats from Talbots that were too narrow with pointed toes and very uncomfortable. Normally I would have returned them, but I kept procrastinating and thinking I would wear them. They are still in the box — I wore them once for about 30 minutes. Poor judgment on my part.
I know can’t be the only one who DOESN’T have credit card regrets. What I spend money on is unrelated to HOW I pay for it. The only reason I prefer credit cards is because of the rewards points I get back for the purchases I would make anyway. That’s a no-brainer. Why would I buy “X” with cash when I could get “X” AND some money back later on by using a particular credit card? That’s what smart shopping means to me.
My latest regret is $150 per night for a hotel in Costa Mesa. With a little effort I could have found a comparable one for much less.
