I like to share updates on what produce is in season produce because it helps me reduce my grocery bill. In season veggies and fruit are some of the cheapest foodstuffs you will find in your grocery store! Watch for rising prices on summer produce.
This list comes from FruitsandVeggiesMoreMatters.org, which has more info and recipes for each of the items below. My favorite fall foods are pears, Brussels sprouts (recipe here), and pomegranates.

Thanks for that!!! I’m trying to (greatly) reduce my grocery bill and eat healthier at the same time! It’s harder than I thought… but I’m tired of having Processed-Food City in my refrigerator and pantry!
I recognized everything except black salsify! What is it, and how is it used?
Many of the items on the list are excellent in soups and stews, winter comfort foods. Can be made in large quantities and frozen in serving sizes. A single friend of mine puts soup servings in zip-lock freezer bags, which freeze flat, and take up less room. I use containers that stack. Also, now is the time to pick up those “sauce tomato” flats at your local produce outlet/farm stand for making and freezing the basis of pasta sauce. Great to have on hand for the winter months. Mine lasted for nearly the whole season last year!
thanks for the list, it helps me avoid pitfalls like the past three times I’ve gotten peaches, they have been mushy, yuck, down the drain or, in my case, out to the rabbit!
