What drugstore beauty products are just as good – or better – than high-end make up lines? I interviewed professional beauty artists on what they carry in their beauty kit to get the scoop.

I’m glad to hear about the CG bronzer. I’ve used the Voluminous mascara before, but my favorite is the Maybelline one with the comb wand (Lash Stylist). But they discontinued it 🙁 HOWEVER, I found it on Amazon, as well as other discontinued makeup!
My other drugstore favorites are:
CG Advanced Radiance Compact Makeup
Maybelline Expert Wear Blush
NYC Browser (brush-on eyebrow kit)
Maybelline Superstay Lipcolor
There’s a trick to using the Maybelline Superstay Lipcolor. Put it on, then blot it right away, so there’s just a very light amount left on the lips. Then, let it dry about a minute and put on the clear gloss stick from the other end. This way, you don’t get a cakey look when the gloss wears off. You get lips that are lightly stained the color you put on. For me, the most natural color is 774. I LOVE THIS STUFF, because I look dead without lip color!
How about a video or article about other drugstore beauty products, like shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, etc? That would be awesome too!
Where’s the article on this topic?
@ Susan C: For the result you want (“lightly stained”), have you tried the lip stains that are out? I doubt that they last very long, but some I’ve tried (Cover Girl’s Outlast Lipstain, for example) have just that effect. Maybelline has a line, also.
@Diane: Julia didn’t write an article, just had the video 🙂 I have tried the Outlast Lipstain, and while I do like it initially, after a while, it wears off in the center area of the lips. The Maybelline Superstay gives me a more even coloration and for a longer period of time.
@Susan C: Do I feel dumb! Thinking that was one of Julia’s Flickr (sp?) photos, I didn’t notice the little “play” arrow in the lower right corner. On a different–but somewhat related–topic, I do buy my cosmetics at a particular drugstore. I have noticed lately that mascara or eyeliner in brown is all but gone and black prevails. Obviously, we don’t all wear black eye make-up, so I wonder what the suppliers and store are thinking.
