I don’t usually hit the post-Christmas sales, but I have almost no Christmas decorations so I want to pick up a few things. I also am on the lookout for a few household comforts. Here is my post-holiday shopping plan.
- Crate & Barrel – I want to hit the outlet in the East Bay to look for holiday ornaments and a table cloth for daily use.
- Etsy.com – I’ve got my eye on a beautiful advent calender and a set of three tiny gnomes that would look lovely in the living room. I’m hoping they will go on sale after the holiday, though there is no guarantee.
- Macy’s – I’m curious if the store will have any bras on sale as I’m still down one. I’m also in the market for a new pair of slippers with a firmer sole as I wear them for many hours a day during the winter and need arch support.
- Any drugstore – I’m not going to buy my holiday cards at the dollar store next year because the envelopes was so thin I had to gingerly push each card in. And the envelopes were so small I had to trim my holiday photo to fit! They were 20 for $1, but not worth it, especially if I can score cards for 50-75% off. I’m also considering ditching paper and doing an electronic card next year.
- J.Crew – I want a new sweater (but don’t need one) so I won’t buy one unless it is a really good deal. J.Crew has been having a ton of sales, so I’m hopeful that trend will continue post-holiday.
Since my brothers & sisters spend Christmas Eve & Day with their respective spouses’ families, our tradition is to get together with each other on New Year’s Day with all our kids to exchange gifts. So I don’t even start the majority of my holiday shopping until the 26th. Biggest advantage is avoiding the maddening crowds.
@Teri What a great way to take advantage of the post-Christmas sales! Do you save a lot of money compared to when you bought gifts pre-Christmas?
Yes, I am buying Christmas stuff that is on sale to give as presents for next year, like hats, gloves, scarves, and Christmas boxers and socks and Underwear!! (I also pick up Easter socks, underwear, Halloween, etc and use them as stocking stuffers at Christmas. The family gets a kick out of it and they have stuff to wear for all holidays.) I am also going to the January white sales too, I need 2 bedrooms redecorated!
I probably won’t, as I intensely dislike shopping with mobs of impatient people pushing and shoving, trying to get the “best” bargains before someone else grabs them. Kinda puts a damper on the Christmas spirit, which is the main point of the holiday for me.
Yes on the 99 Cent Store holiday cards for real! The cards were nice, the envelopes were horrible. That’s exactly what I’m shopping for. That, and Target usually marks clearance those “holiday packaged” items like shampoo with bonus, etc.
I love Teri’s family’s idea! What a great way to avoid the Christmas crazies, get nicer gifts than you might ordinarily afford, and show in the New Year.
I’m planning to make a run on Crate & Barrel, since they’re having a 50% off sale and there’s a particular line of furniture my son covets. It probably won’t be on sale, but nothing ventured…
The shopping center where C&B resides also houses a J. Jill, where I saw a pretty sweater that the saleslady thought would go on sale very soon.
Would love to have some Christmas lights, since all my neighbors are now decorating their houses and I don’t have any. But as usual at this time of year, there are SO many things I really need that I hesitate to spend money on something I’d use all of once a year…if I can get the yard man to put them up for me.
