Has anyone seen posters for the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic? It comes out Feb. 13, which Hubby says is cruel timing because a lot of girls will ask their beaus to take them to see it as a Valentine’s Day Gift. And he hasn’t even seen the trailer!
Luckily, I have. Shopaholic is about a red head named Becky Bloomwood (Isla Fisher, Wedding Crashers) who shops until she is in so much debt she has to freeze her credit cards in blocks of ice. There are a lot of shots of her prancing around in cute outfits and slapping men to get out of sticky situations. You said you spoke Finnish?
It is unclear from the trailer whether she learns to pay down her debt and shop responsibly, or whether she falls in love with a rich man who wipes her troublesome bills away. I’ve lived in LA long enough to put my money on the latter. Ahhhhh, Hollywood.
As someone who does not shop a lot, even though I spend a lot of time *thinking* about spending, I’m worried that watching this movie will make me want to buy a ton of clothes. If I see it, maybe I should leave my credit cards at home. What do you think?
Watch the 2:35 minute trailer below.

Yeah, I started reading the first book YEARS ago (my sister was obsessed), and I couldn’t even finish the first one because I got so mad that she kept spending money and getting into debt! Still conflicted as to whether to see the movie…but, Valentine’s day or not, Boyfriend owes me a chick flick after seeing The Wrestler with him…
Totally. Hubby and I keep tabs on who chose the last movie, too. Some movies I refuse to see, like the Transformers. But I don’t expect him to see movies like Sex and City with me either. It works both ways.
If you do go see it.. I suggest picking up your tickets at Costco, last time I checked they were selling 2 for 16 dollars… and if Your husband doesn’t go with and you plan on seeing it after matinee pricing, 8 dollars is great for a movie… and You can use the 2nd ticket at another time.
Or you can buy discount tickets via the concierge at some of the Douglas Emmett buildings on Oxnard. For example, the concierge is at 21700 Oxnard for a couple of hours on Fridays, beginning at 11:00, I believe. And the lower prices are for evenings as well as matinees.
Here’s more information on the concierge as of 11/13/08. IF the prices have changed, I don’t expect it to be by much. First, it is necessary to understand the difference between “restricted” (you must wait 10-14 days to see a newly released movie, usually the first two weekends) and “unrestricted” (any movie, anytime, including new releases).
AMC: $6.50 (restricted); $8 (unrestricted)
Pacific: $6.50 (restricted + $2 surcharge at the Grove); there is a package deal for unrestricted for $29.50 which is for 2 tickets + 2 med. drinks + lrg. popcorn
Mann: $6.25 (restrict.); $7.50 (un)
Regal/UA/Edwards: $6.50 (restrict); $7.50 (un) + a package for $29.50 for 2 un. and a $10 gift cert. for concessions
The concierge also sells discount theme park tickets and tickets to Aquarium of the Pacific and L.A. Zoo. There may be money-off coupons for the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Pirates Pier Mini Golf, Medieval Times, and Pirates Dinner Adventure.
Three locations for the concierge: Tues. (11-1) at 21650 Oxnard; Thurs. (12-2) at the Trillium, 6300 Canoga; and Fri. (11-1) at 21700 Oxnard. For questions: (818) 593-6271 or (818) 716-2057.
Whew–I got it all in! Move over, Bargain Babe! I may become your competition!
About the movie trailer: Looked stupid to me.
I just learned from the concierge that its services are available as an amenity only to employees within the Douglas Emmett buildings. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Commenting usually isnt my thing, but ive spent an hour on the site, so thanks for the info
