Hubby and I returned from a long weekend away to find a wounded bird on our deck. It’s feathers were disheveled and it cowered when I came near instead of flying away. Hubby called animal control, which was closed for the night. So the cops came.
Turns out, the bird is not wounded. It’s a baby crow that’s been kicked out of the nest to, ahem, encourage it to fly. Here are two minutes of flying lessons (sideways, unfortunately).

Am I the only one that finds this highly entertaining?
TOO CUTE! SO WHAT ENDED UP HAPPENING WITH THE LITTLE GUY?!
I SHALL HAVE TO SEND YOU THE VIDEO (VERY SHORT) THAT MY HUSBAND TOOK OF MAMA AND/OR PAPA FEEDING THE LATEST BATCH OF BABY BIRDS THAT HAVE NESTED ON OUR FRONT PORCH.
Definitely send me the video! Thanks:)
Very cute. Every year we get baby humming birds. They are so tiny and cute. I love watching them grow up. Hope mama bird will be back next year.
What a cute birdie! I raised 2 baby crows (not as well feathered as yours) and had fun being a temporary crow mama. Most likely T-bird’s mom is keeping an eye on him from afar. She will bring him some food if he is alone in the yard and she feels it is safe. Good luck!
So…what happened? Mixed emotions here…crows have devourerd our corn crops on more than one occassion. A lot of really hard work. But, what can I say…a baby bird is a baby bird!
I think you should name him Orville or Wilbur, after the Wright brothers… this flight is just as momentous!
That is soooo cute. Did he ever learn to fly.
WE’re bird watchers so to be able to see one practice the preflight launch is wonderful. I hope you keep filming so we can see when T-bird learns to flap those wings after he lifts off!
I recently became a “bird watcher” when a bird set up it’s nest above my porch light – a wonderful distraction, though I wished it was outside my office window.
It WAS entertaining to see them learn to fly, yet sad to see them leave.
Loved it so much, I had my backyard certified as a Wildlife Habitat (very easy to do).
Love the video, hope you are supplying birdie with food and water
