If you missed my interview on NBC last week about the Frugal Festival, watch it below. The volume is really low, unfortunately.
I should have the finished Frugal Festival video to share with you in a few days. Exciting!
If you missed photos of the massive Frugal Fest clothing swap, go here. Racked LA posted a review of the event yesterday, with a picture of my Mom! Yes, that is her in the black and white Led Zepellin T-shirt. Racked LA editor Lisa Boosin also got a shot of me, above, with my new rabbit scarf-boa thingy!
The 25 VIP tickets to the Frugal Festival are sold out! However, you can still get a ticket to the clothing swap this Saturday, June 19 at the NoHo Performing Arts Center, 11020 Magnolia Blvd. in North Hollywood.
Raffle prizes and goodies for the reusable bags each swapper receives are arriving everyday in the mail! Today my two dogs nearly bit the FedEx delivery guy when they accidentally escaped. They look sweet, above, but have uncontrollable mailman phobias. Also, they only sit for photos when bribed with kibble.
I literally jumped out of bed at 6:43 a.m. this morning because I realized there are only FIVE DAYS UNTIL THE FRUGAL FESTIVAL! Breathe deeply, everything will be fine…
AAAAAAAAAAG!
To prepare for the one-day clothing/media/housewares swap we wrote a post about how the swap actually works (there are many ways to run a swap) on the Frugal Festival blog. Tip: you can take home whatever you can stuff into the free reusable bag you will receive with admission.
We also negotiated a hot 10% discount at the nearby thrift shop Someone Else’s for Frugal Fest swappers. Just another reason to come to the swap this Saturday, June 19 at the NoHo Performing Arts Center at 11020 Magnolia Blvd in North Hollywood. Drop off is 10 a.m. to noon. The swap starts at 1 p.m. SHARP.

Just one week until the Frugal Festival Summer Swap June 19. I am so excited! Goodies and prizes from sponsors WalletPop, Savings, Lozo.com, Free Fun La, Holiday Inn Santa Monica, Yelp, Restaurant.com, and others are arriving everyday. We just got word at Mani-Kir Royal salon is raffling off a $25 gift certificate!
I’m making a stash of my stuff to swap, including…
- Two pairs of pumps, including one pair I wore twice five years ago. Psst, it’s okay to swap/buy used shoes.
- A gently-used copy of California Camping by Tom Stienstra
- A brand new pair of size 8-9 hot pink animal stripped slippers, above
- A handful of tops, blouses, sweaters, and other clothes
- A slim leather black belt with white stitching (actually, I’m on the fence about this)
What are you going to swap?
Details: the swap is June 19, 1-3 p.m. at the NoHo Performing Arts Center, 11020 Magnolia Blvd in North Hollywood. Drop off is 10-noon same day. Tickets $5 if you have swappables, $10 if not, or $15 for a VIP ticket. Tickets sold exclusively through Goldstar.
I updated the list of goodies you’ll find in the reusable bags we are giving to every swapper, including a $25 Restaurant.com gift card in every bag! SOOO worth the $5 admission, in my humble opinion.
The free raffle works a bit differently this year so make sure to be present for the drawing at 2 p.m. on June 19. Every swapper gets one free ticket with admission.
Where to park at the Frugal Festival June 19? I scoped out the situation.

What to do while we are sorting your swappables? There are a ton of restaurants, thrift shops, and stores within walking distance of the NoHo Performing Arts Center, 11020 Magnolia Blvd in North Hollywood, where the swap is being held. I compiled a list of places to eat and things to do.
Directions from every direction! You shan’t get lost on your way to the swap with these guidelines.

There is a new post on the Frugal Festival blog about this year’s event on June 19, 2010. Please check it out!
I am in the process of updating FrugalFestival.com so if you see a posts dated 2009 it means it is from last year’s event.
Reader Iggy is sneaky. S/he somehow got inside information about this year’s Frugal Festival and shared it in a comment on my post about the on-going reader gift card giveaway:
You should get those companies to join the next Bargain Babe Free Swap event at the park in NoHo! (hint hint…when will you have another one? The first one was tremendous fun!)
Well Iggy, I am working hard on this year’s Frugal Festival, which will be Saturday, June 19, 2010. Mark your calenders and look for an announcement Monday about who is coming to the Festival, what prizes we will be giving away, and where in Los Angeles it will be held. I can’t wait to see you there!
If you read about the Frugal Fe$tival in today’s LA Times and LA Daily News, welcome! Between 250-300 people joined us for a totally free celebration of frugality and the launch of BargainBabeLA.com, a site where you can find and share deals in Los Angeles.
If you’d like to share a deal on BargainBabeLA.com, get started here.
The Fe$t also celebrated the 6-month anniversary of BargainBabe.com, which helps you save money on groceries, gas, and other everyday expenses. Sign up for my free email list here.
We gave away 50 free T-shirts and 52 raffle prizes, which means roughly 102 of of the 300 people who attended took something home for free! My Mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies got snapped up like THAT and the free swap meet was tres popular. Photos are here!
If you missed the Fe$tival, you can buy a hot pink Frugal Fe$t T-shirt for $15 (includes shipping) by emailing me.
Thank you Meital, Bargain Hubby, Bobbi, Alex, my Mom, Michele, Stacey, and Meirav for volunteering and making the event fantastic. Congrats on a job well done. Who’s up for doing it again?
A BIG thanks to our sponsors for helping us keep the Frugal Fe$tival free: Savings.com, Goldstar.com, Wealth Pilgrim, 99 Cent Only Stores, Wise Bread, and Dress on a Dime. We could not have done it without you!
We’ve just signed on two sponsors for the Frugal Festival!
Neal Frankle, a financial adviser who runs Wealth Resources Group in Agoura Hills is going to be giving free financial advice at the Frugal Festival. Attendees can sign up for one of 8 private, 15-minute sessions with him. We’ll also be raffling away a free one-hour consultation with him at the Festival. Do you have a money question or situation that you need help with? Maybe Neal can help. He also writes a personal finance blog called Wealth Pilgrim.
Suzanne O’Connor, who has been tipping off the greater Los Angeles region about the best upcoming sales on BargainsLA.com, is coming to Frugal Festival. She’s currently mulling over which area of her expertise she’ll be sharing.
