Kindle DX – ON SALE FOR $259 TODAY ONLY (orig. $379). The DX was the top of the line before Kindle Fire came out. The extra moolah gets you free 3G Internet worldwide (without a monthly contract), a bigger 9.7-inch screen, a one-week battery life, and enough memory to store 3,500 books.

The Kindle 3G + WiFi is smaller, at 6-inches, and has many of the same features as the DX. It can also connect to WiFi hotspots at the library, airport, coffeehouse…you name it. It sells for $189 but is being overshadowed by the Kindle Fire, which is only $10 more.

Lastly, the Kindle WiFi is also 6-inches and can connect to the Internet in hotspots but not using 3G. A bit limiting, but if you’re a planner you can download books you want to read over your home WiFi connection and not worry about finding hotspots on the go. If you can tolerate ads, the cost drops to as low as $79 (or less from third-party sellers). If you’re only going to use the gadget to read books, I’d take a close look at the Nook, below.

I’m a huge fan of my husband’s Nook, which runs you $139 from Barnes & Noble. Today only, Nov. 28, the Nook is $40 off – just $99 – and comes with FREE shipping. Plus, you get a $25 egift card when you buy it online, making it just $74. Hot stuff! It is a basic e-reader and will win over folks who say they love the feel of a book in their hands (like me!) The Pop Phone is a fun gimick gift!

The Nook Color lets you access apps, email, music, books, mags, and soon Hulu Plus and Netflix. It costs $249 but is on sale today only for $199. This device sounds a lot like the Kindle Fire, but hasn’t gotten quite as much attention. It has a 7-inch screen and the ability to connect to WiFi.

The Nook Tablet is $249 has all the features of the Nook Color, and comes pre-loaded with the most popular apps, like Netflix, Hulu Plus, Words with Friends, and more. I’d probably go with the Kindle Fire instead.

For big spenders, the iPad 2 still makes other envious and is a leader in apps. At $499 and up for the device, plus monthly service charges and accessories, it is a blow to the wallet.

A lower priced tech gift is the etip glove, which lets you use your touchscreen device (like an iPhone or any of the above tablets) without taking your gloves off. Very useful in cold weather! It ranges from $18-$40, depending on the brand.

Another hip, lower-priced tech gift is the $29 Pop Phone, above. Combine the charm of an old fashioned phone with the convenience of your mobile! Plug it into your cell and speak into an old fashioned handset. Aside from the gimmicky appeal, the phone claims to eliminate “up to 99% of the radiation absorbed compared to a direct use of mobile phones.” Compatible with the iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Android phones.

I have never been one of those persons who wakes up at the crack of dawn to hit the malls on Black Friday. Every year, my aversion to large crowds trumps my need to save money. I can�t bear standing in line for hours just to save a few bucks. So what�s a frugal hermit like me do to � score on Cyber Monday.

No elbow-jabbing, or push-and-shove drama like on Black Friday. On Cyber Monday, I shop in my jammies from the comfort of my home. Here are my best four tips to help you score big and have a pleasant experience.

1. Holiday shoppers beware � Before you start buying, make sure your computer is up to date with an anti-virus and anti-spyware. You don�t want to fall victim to identity theft and have this turn in to a headache later on. When shopping and entering credit card information, make sure your online purchase is secure. There should be a little lock icon on the site when you enter personal information. After the transaction, be wary of any e-mail asking for more personal information. 2. Browse the web more efficiently � Instead of going to retailers� websites, use sites that aggregate and compare prices. Make sure to use sites you trust only. Fatwallet.com and CyberMonday.com are some of those sites that make finding Cyber Deals easier. The sites are easy to use. Just type in the product name you are after and the details are at your fingertips.

3. Score free shipping � I hate paying for shipping. Who doesn’t? But there are ways around it. If the retailer allows it, chose to pick up the item at your local store to get free shipping. Many sites are offering free shipping this year to compete with other retailers. Check FreeShipping.org for free shipping coupon codes.

4. Relax � Don’t be in such a rush to buy if you don�t find exactly what you want. Panicky retailers may cut prices even further as Christmas approaches or you can also wait for the after Christmas sales. To stay up to date on sales, make sure to use your social media to hunt for bargains.

If you shop online, here are 12 questions to ask to determine if your credit card info safe and to ensure a site is legit.

1. Is the site a trusted retailer?

2. Have you or a close friend shopped there before with good results?

3. Is the retailer registered with the Better Business Bureau? Are there unresolved complaints? How were previous complaints handled?

4. Does the site display one or more logos from an Internet trust organization, like VeriSign, or Mcafee?

5. Does the site have a privacy policy? Is it reasonable?

6. Does the site have a customer service page?

7. Is the return policy explained clearly and is it reasonable?

8. Does the site have a working phone number? Does the site share its address? Call the number and see if anyone answers. Can the representative answer a basic question about the company, like what is the return policy?

9. Are safe payment options accepted, like credit card or Paypal? If a site only accepts cashier’s checks or wire transfers, run. You can contest a credit card charge if need be and Paypal offers a full refund if an item never arrives or if it is significantly different than described.

10. When you checkout, does the website address appear as https…? That “s” stands for secure and means your credit card info is encrypted as your purchase is processed.

11. If you Google the site name plus “reviews,” do you find positive comments? If a site has multiple complaints about customer service, shop elsewhere.

12. Has the site been around for years? Be skeptical of brand new sites and check them out thoroughly before you buy. Really new sites may not have a BBB rating or costumer reviews to go by.

The more “yes” answers to the above questions, the more trusted the site is. If you answered more than 1 or 2 “nos,” consider shopping elsewhere. Here are three more questions to consider. If you answer yes to any of these, shop elsewhere.

• Does the site ask for a credit card even if you’re not making a purchase?
• Does the item the site is selling seem too good to be true?
• Does the site ask for personal info that seems extraneous – like your social security number, your mother’s maiden name, or the school you went to for fifth grade?
