How I picked the winner and runner ups
I use Random.org to pick the lucky readers. Each person who signs up for my money saving email tips gets assigned a number according to when they joined. The first reader is No. 1, the second reader is No. 2, and so on. Random.org picks the winning numbers.
Hundreds of new readers signed up to win a shopping challenge to buy gifts for their entire family with one $600 Sears gift card. Everything the winner buys is theirs to keep!
I used Random.org to pick a winner and 15 runner ups. These lucky readers come from CA, AZ, FL, VT, TX, NJ, GA, IL, MA, and NH. Some have been reading BargainBabe.com since I launched the site in Jan. 2009 and others joined as recently as last week.
The $600 Sears gift card must be spent between Nov. 29-Dec 5, 2010 at a Sears in MA, CT, RI, or New York City. I will be on hand to share shopping tips and catch the event on flip camera. The gift card and camera were donated by Sears. For folks who cannot fulfill the prize, I have fabulous consolation prizes. (more…)

PREVIOUSLY: We received more than 500 entries for the familyFinds.com $150 Visa gift card giveaway, including hundreds of deal suggestions, dozens of Tweets, and many blog posts. And the winner is…
First, a note about how I selected the contest winner.
I used Random.org to pick a random winning number, then matched the winning number to the comment with the same number. How are comments numbered? The first comment gets the number 1, the second comment gets the number 2, and so on. I repeated this process to select three runner ups.
And the winner is… (more…)
UPDATE: Jeannette claimed her prize within hours of my email to her and the three runner ups. I asked how she plans to spend the $100 Amazon gift card. “I am not sure….going shopping on Amazon.com I guess,” she wrote. “My husband is a social science teacher so books are always good.”

There were so many wonderful, informative comments left as part of my latest reader giveaway contest that I had a hard time picking one winner.
I envy Brenda A.’s meticulous organization.
We love camping and do it several times a yr since our kids love it. I have all my cooking pans in plastic bins labeled, cooking stuff (pantry items)in another bin and so on. The most important thing to me is making a menu for each meal and day we are going to be camping, that way I dont buy thing I dont need and stay on top of the items I do need. After every trip we do an inventory list of the items that need to be replaced.
We keep all our camping/outdoor gear ready to go inside our emergency kit (water, food, etc.). It saves time getting out the door for a weekend getaway and keeps us prepared in case of a major disaster.
Fonedoc gets his/her kids excited for the trip by including them in the decision-making process.
I like to get the kids excited by telling them some options of what we can do and have them decide on some activities, so that its their decision in helping us plan our trip. They usual cant wait and talk about the trip for days before and even after. I like hearing them tell their friends all about our trips together.
Michael Ayson Muson starts by calling his friends to borrow gear – very savvy!
I prepare for my camping trips by calling all of my friends to borrow their gear! Please hook me up with my own gear both for my and my friends sake!
Hilary takes a stress-free approach.
I start by taking a nice long showerbecause it will be a few days before I get another one! In the shower I start making my mental list of everything I need to pack/take with meanything left behindwell, we dont need it!
Scaredekat’s comment made me laugh. Get ready, set, go!
i check to see if the camp grounds are available. then i check weather and i start on my list! from supplies/gear to food to toiletries, and not to forget my dog supplies for Max!
My most favorite thing to do is to time how fast i can pitch the tent!
And the winner is…Michael Ayson Muson. I hope these camping supplies, generously donated by Kmart, help you go camping more often. If Michael does not email me within 48 hours to claim his prize, the runner up is Fonedoc. Thanks to everyone who joined the contest!

Reader Meghan is the winner of my review copy of Shift Your Habit: Easy Ways to Save Money, Simplify Your Life, and Save the Planet. Meghan was one of the few readers that revealed why she was going green. In her comment she said she is doing it to keep the earth healthy for future generations to enjoy. She writes:
What an awesome giveaway. I am going green b/c I realize how important it is for us to leave the earth in good health for future generationslike my kids!
Meghan, I love that you’ll be passing on all this knowledge to your kids. I hope the book helps you by providing practical tips you and your family can start doing in your daily lives to lower your utility bills and carbon footprint.
If you missed my review of the book, author Elizabeth Rogers’ book is a comprehensive guide that helps you go green and save green. In the book, Rogers gives the dollar amount saved for every green change. For example, packing a waste-free lunch for your kids can save you up to $400 per year or more for a two-child family.
If you didn’t win my review copy and would like to read more about the savings and green changes Rogers recommends, Amazon has it for $10.08.

Reader Lauren Y. wins the review copy of The Cheap Divas Guide to Frugal and Fabulous Living for her comment that reveals shes lived paycheck to paycheck but hadnt learned her lesson until she got laid off for the second time:
For most of my working life Ive lived pretty much (or barely) paycheck to paycheck. Ive been a waitress, office assistant, temp and receptionist.
Despite all those short-lived, low-paying jobs, I didnt really learn my lesson in frugality until I was laid off for the second time. As I said before, Ive lived paycheck to paycheck (or was underfinanced, as I like to say when Im feeling fancy) but Id never been broke. After that second layoff, I was BROKE. I had to figure out how to pay for rent, utilities, food, gas and medicine. Since I was laid off from another low-paying job, my unemployment check wasnt going to cut it. I took as many temp jobs as I could to cover rent and utilities. To save gas, I combined errands and limited my driving to necessary errands and work. I found a state-funded pharmacy to help pay for my medicine. Finally, I started using coupons (which i got from my moms newspaper), only shopped at stores that doubled coupons and learned how to stretch meals.
Fortunately, I eventually got a decent paying job but that unemployment-broke spell put the Fear of Brokedom in me. The first thing I did after getting the job was pay off all my consumer debt. It took a lot of major changes but I managed to do it in a little over a year. Now Im trying to learn how to go from survivor mode to healthy savings mode. To me, healthy savings mode is where I can be frugal while still enjoying life. Im not there yet but Im working my way towards it.
Lauren, I hope this book continues to help you learn to live a frugal life but also helps you enjoy every minute of it. If you missed the book review, author Stephanie Ann writes about her tips and tricks to getting good deals and shows you how to make some cash by selling your clutter or by creating your own job.
In the book, Ann shares her story and shares she was living paycheck to paycheck after a series of low paying jobs and long periods of unemployment. It can be difficult to get laid off especially when you have credit card debt from trying to make ends meet but it is important to take care of yourself to look fabulous and once again conquer the world.
If you didn’t win my review copy you can purchase it on Amazon for $13.45.
This is a post by BargainBabe.com writer Yazmin Cruz.
Stephanie Ann, author of The Cheap Divas Guide to Frugal and Fabulous Living: How to Shop Smart, Look Your Best, Decorate with Style, and Have Fun for Less Money!, shares her tips and tricks to living large on a small budget in her 224-page book. Ann is the creator of thecheapdiva.com, a budget style blog.
In her book, Ann shares her secrets to scoring deals and shows you how to make money by cashing in on your clutter or creating your own job. The book is a fun and fast read with hints of humor that come from anecdotes she shares about her time working in various home dcor and retail businesses. The book also includes a handy list of websites sure to save you money.
The book is divided into five parts: Money, Fashion, Beauty, Home Dcor and Entertainment.
So what makes Ann an expert in frugal living ? For starters, I was living the frugal lifestyle long before it was fashionable, she writes. With a series of low-income jobs and prolonged periods of unemployment, she said shes built a healthy sense of mistrust of employers and many healthy savings habits.
If you would like to learn the secrets to a frugal and fabulous life for free, leave a comment detailing your short-lived jobs and how they helped you learn to tighten your financial belt. You may end up being the lucky winner of my review copy – signed by the Cheap Diva herself!
Comment by Friday, July 9 at 9 a.m. PST for a chance to win. If you cant wait to get your hands on the book, you can purchase it on Amazon for $13.45.
