Tightwad Tod has a great post on more businesses offering senior discounts to open pocketbooks in the recession. Seniors can now get discounts at drug and grocery stores, clothing stores, gyms, hardware stores, auto repair shops, and insurance companies. You can also ask plumbers, contractors, barbershops, car washes, piano teachers, veterinarians, and car dealers for a discount, according to the post.
Some perks start at 62 or 65, others begin as early as 50. Just ask!
More senior discount resources:
The Web site senior discounts has info on business that offer perks to older customers. Some of the site is free but paid members get more access to deals.
About.com lists about three dozen senior discounts.
AARP members get discounts on retail, travel, fitness, and home purchases.
Senior discounts website very confusing. I registered “free” and it said discussion boards were free. Went to discussion board and it said “click on senior discounts topics link ‘below’ “. No such link there. Went to find discounts at home page and it brought me back to putting in my zip code AGAIN and then to register again. Maybe I’m too dumb, but found it very confusing. Finally gave up.
On the senior discount program You can’t any information unless you pay them 7.95. Don’t waste your money. For example the DirecTV discount is through a dealer that makes you apply for new service even though the heading says DTV.
The information about grocery store discounts is really silly as the discount at Ralphs only on their own labeled products.
Their so-called senior discount at Rite Aid requires you to buy a prescription there you become a member of their living well: to get the discount.
About the only thing it tells me is simply askif a vendor has a senior discount and see what to give you.
Also a bunch of their so-called discounts near her home are online orders only for the products through mail to you.
And of course no refunds of your 7.95 if you don’t like their service please remove them from your website..
I did not realize there was strong opposition to this site. I’ve poked around before and gotten some tips without paying. I used to receive their free newsletter, which had decent tips but nothing ground breaking. Is there another site you prefer? Please do tell!
Does anyone knows what should we expect in 2010? they promise more problems on wall stree? I are heading toward dipression?
