I haven’t always been a smartphone user. The price tag and monthly bill made me reluctant to switch over for many years. Now I can’t live without my iPhone. Below I share how to lower the cost of owning a smartphone.

In my post about shrinking your cell phone bill, I suggest you avoid the extras like ringtones and wallpaper. With a smartphone, you also want to avoid paying for in-app purchases or going crazy downloading music. To avoid accidentally making these purchases, go to the apps’ settings and turn-off purchases.

Right smack in the middle of a fancy schmancy dinner I received a text meant to swindle me out of money. On our way home I checked my phone and found the text, at right. I had received the Walmart text scam that’s been going around.
There were red flags all over this thing. For one, I am not a Walmart shopper. Though it was my birthday, I knew it wasn’t my lucky day as I hadn’t entered any giveaways. The biggest clue this was a scam was the number. It was a regular 10-digit number instead of the usual shortcodes used by legitimate companies.

I remember my grandmother telling me how when she was a little girl she used every part of the chicken. She raised them and ate their eggs. When it was time for that chicken to pass onto the big chicken coop in the sky, the feathers went into pillows.
She cooked and ate the meat. Chicken fat (schmaltz) was rendered and kept for frying. The liver was made into pate. The bones helped make healthy chicken broth.
I thought that was the end of the chicken, but apparently I was wrong.
