I’ve sent holiday ecards, traditional paper cards, and skipped the whole process some years. But there’s nothing like hearing from friends and family. Sometimes hearing from folks I’m no longer in touch with (except for their holiday letter) are the ones I enjoy the most.
My husband thinks it’s ridiculous that people only get in touch because it’s Christmas. But he’s just being grumpy. Wouldn’t you rather hear from friends and family than not at all? I can promise you my holiday card this year is going to be devoted to my little bun (who is still in the oven).
Spend not a penny on high-quality holiday cards from DaySpring by entering to win this giveaway!

All this cost me just $48.60 - 70% off!!!
Time to brag. Yesterday I went to The Body Shop and saved 70% off my total bill by stacking coupons and discounts. WOWIE! Here’s how I pulled it off. (If you don’t have a store nearby, you can shop directly through the site or get built-in discounts on The Body Shop products on Amazon.)
I bought 13 items that rang up for $162, including Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion SPF 15, Seaweek Mattifying Day Cream (that I use at night), and gift-size lip balm, lip butter, body scrub, body butter, and conditioner , pictured above.
I used a Buy One Get One Free holiday promotion coupon from a mystery bag that the clerk offered me. As soon as I entered the store she told me about the promotion, so as long as you shop in store you should be able to get a similar discount. The coupons vary but I pulled a really good one! This took off $68.
I redeemed two Groupons, worth a combined $80, that I paid $40 for. This saved me $40.
I used my Love Your Body Card, which takes 10% off . This shaved off $9.20.
At the store I paid just $8.60 for all this loot. That’s $3.70 per item!
Part of the reason why I was able to stack so many coupons and discounts was that the sales clerk was willing to help! I’ve noticed this in past trips so I’m guessing The Body Shop has a corporate policy to help their customers save as much as possible. By the end of the transaction, I felt guilty getting so many great skincare products for so little! Plus, my receipt has a 20% off coupon for any in store purchase before Nov. 30, 2011. Hot dang!

Wanted to share this video from Daily Finance (AOL) on how to find leaks that are making your heating bill higher than it needs to be, and fixes that cost as little as a few bucks.
Even if your utility company doesn’t provide a free energy audit to find leaks, the video has a secret to doing it yourself! I really need to make time for this stuff!
My weatherizing to do list:
- Check if my utility offers free energy audits
- Finish insulating basement pipes with foam insulation that we have laying around!
- Caulk leaky windows
- Buy and install insulation strip for drafty front door
What weatherizing projects are you not looking forward to doing?

“I can’t believe we’re putting together furniture with tape,” my husband said.
I kept my mouth shut.
We were assembling five Way Basics storage cubes in the baby’s room that seemed, quite frankly, flimsy. Each cube is made out of four thick pieces of laminated, recycled paperboard and a thin back piece, so they are extremely light. Even the pegs that hold the pieces in place are made from recycled paper!
When we pulled off the protective strips to expose double-sided tape and stuck the pieces together, however, my skepticism turned to a smile. No more flimsy!
These cubes are perfect for our nursery and we quickly filled them with diapers, receiving blankets, and more diapers. Now I wouldn’t load these shelves with anything heavy like books or a glass vase. But they are ideal for lighter items. Super easy to assemble because they require no tools or hardware. And you can move them around much easier than, say, a heavy wooden bookshelf. I stacked mine, above, but you can also use them in a row.
Below is a video showing how they are assembled.
Today we are launching a giveaway for five Way Basics storage cubes, worth $100.
