OVO 216x300 Win tickets to Cirque du Soleils OVO!

Win a family 4-pack to OVO!

I’m excited to announce a lucky Bargain Babe reader will win a Family 4-pack to OVO from Cirque du Soleil under the Big Top at the Santa Monica Pier on March 7. Find out how you can win the tickets, below. I’ll also let you know how you can score discounted tickets to OVO!

According to the press release, “OVO, meaning egg in Portuguese, is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement.  When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives. It is love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye – and the feeling is mutual.”

I’ve heard OVO is great for the whole family!

2253997762 fa98efa023 Valentines Day crafts and projects

Love book made from deck of cards

I am so glad that it is finally time to start making Valentine’s Day crafts. I just love them. Can’t get enough of those hearts and flowers and rainbows and paper doilies.

I found eight lovely and do-able Valentine’s crafts.

  1. Little felt heart pins. These are so simple and yet so sweet. Just a bit of felt cut into heart shapes, hand stitched and stuffed with a little pin backing.
  2. A garland of love. Print out pictures of your loved one(s) and cut into the shape of hearts. Glue picture on a heart shape red card. Tie heart onto a string. Make a garland of love. (more…)

super bowl 225x300 Save money on your Super Bowl Sunday party

This is a post by BargainBabe.com writer Yazmin Cruz.

I must confess I have no clue what teams are playing on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 5), but what I do know is how to throw a party on a budget! Below I share suggestions to lower the costs of drinks, food, and decorations.

Food

  • Prepare your food from scratch. It will take you longer, but it will taste better and save you money! Buying pre-made food from the grocery store is always more expensive. Make foods that can be prepped ahead of time or come in large batches so you can enjoy the game or commercials. Try this turkey chilli recipe. Make your own dips and salsas as well. (more…)

man wallet 300x137 Are women to blame for men in debt? Dedicated

Recent studies suggest that a scarcity of women can actually cause men’s finances to suffer. The study involved showing men newspaper articles about the ratio of women to men in an area and then asking them to respond regarding how much they would borrow on credit cards and save each month. Surprisingly, the study revealed a correlation, as men in a town with fewer women reported a tendency to borrow or spend more and put less into savings accounts. Real-life statistics also seem to confirm these findings.

Sale Shopping 199x300 Smart January shopping DedicatedAlmost as memorable as the excitement of waking up on Christmas morning is the familiar feeling of walking through your front door a few days later, exhausted after emptying out bags full of clothes that either don’t fit, or you wouldn’t even consider wearing to bed. Intrinsic to Christmas is the January shopping that ensues.

Christmastime consumers are easy targets for retailers when it comes to the January sales. It’s a time of feeling generous, festive, indulgent, vulnerable and hungover: a combination that hardly makes for wise and rational decision making. This is the time that savings accounts surrender to sales, aka the post-Christmas binge.

You have to watch this video of personal finance blogger, Kevin McKee, singing about his love for ROTH IRAs. It’s hilarious! I love the chipmunk vocals. He does a parody of Bruno Mars’ hit song “Just the Way You Are.” McFee blogs over at  Thousandaire.

slice 300x147 Save time and money with GoSlice.com DedicatedDon’t you hate it when you buy an item and a few days later that same item goes on sale? A new shopping service called Slice now keeps track of all of your purchases and sends you notifications when the price of an item you purchased drops, so you can contact the retailer and get a refund for the difference. Pretty cool.

After creating a free account on GoSlice.com, Slice keeps track of your online purchases by gathering all of your electronic receipts in one place, no matter where you made the purchase from. Rest assured, CEO Scott Brady informed us that the entire process is secure, and Slice won’t release your information or delete emails. At the moment, Slice is available to Yahoo! and Google mail users, and Brady says they’re looking to expand to support other email providers. (more…)
