I accidentally threw out my husband’s razor shortly after moving in with him. Opps! It is a testament to his calm demeanor that he was disappointed, not angry. Ever since then, he’s dreaded shaving his head with my electric razor because mine isn’t tough enough.
Then I got an email from Jodi at Philips Norelco asking if we wanted to test out a new men’s shaver and trimmer for the Bargain Babe Hot Holiday Gift Guide. Yes, please!
We’ve also suggested electronics gifts, gifts at Sears, and toys for kids. Over the next two weeks, we will suggest gifts for kids, teens, men, and women. There will also be a day devoted to unique and quirky gifts, and we’ll finish the gift guide on Dec. 9 with a roundup of the best overall gifts.

I love presents! I love waking up on Christmas morning to a tree drowning in presents. My family spends the day opening presents, watching movies, eating good food and talking to friends and relatives on the phone. Heavenly.
However, creating that pile of presents without breaking the budget and without gathering ANY credit card debt is a trick. A trick that I have pulled off for many years, by the way.
Here are my top 8 No Debt Santa Claus secrets:

Emails that announce store sales are so last year. This year, use your smartphone and tablet to score deals on holiday shopping with apps that compare prices, receive discounts, and buy products. Some apps even include in-store maps! A recent USA Today story noted the trend.
Half of those who own smartphones will use them during holiday shopping and 71% of tablet owners will use them to tackle holiday tasks, according to the National Retail Federation. Here are seven tips to shop smart with your mobile. (more…)

1. Use a cash back site for all your online purchases, for heavens sake. My favorite is Ebates. If you join its email list, the site will alert you to their daily DOUBLE cash back offer and weekly cash back deals. You can combine the cash back rebate with any coupons, free shipping offers, or sales the retailer has going on. I’ve earned more than $1,000 through Ebates. It is not a scam, and if you aren’t using it for your online purchases, you are leaving money on the table.
Downside: Ebates pays out every 90 days.
2. Monitor the Black Friday ads. Each week we share the latest
I added 13 NEW Black Friday ads and five updates to the Black Friday 2011 deals and sales post. Highlights? Walmart released their ad, and so did Staples, Rite Aid, and JC Penney, among others.
So far there are four stores set to open at midnight on Black Friday: Macy’s, Target, Kohl’s, and Best Buy.

A large man carrying three stuffed red sacks passed me in Toys R Us recently. The manager and I exchanged looks. Huh?
“Having fun playing Santa?” she called after the man.
He pushed on, disappearing between two doors at the back of the store.
“Is that…?” I quizzed.
“Those are our layaway purchases,” she said.
“Ohhh. How is that program going this year?”

I am a firm believer in returning products. If I get it home and find out that it doesn’t fit, work, or do what the advertising promised, I return it. However, I hate the time, effort, and gas it takes to make a return.
Most stores have very good return policies. However, it often costs more to return the item than its purchase price. For instance,

This post brought to you by Cardpool, your source for discounted online gift cards.
No idea why I did not register for discounted gift card alerts until now. Buying gift cards online at a steep discount – up to 30% off the face value – is a quick and easy way to save. Combine coupons with a gift card you bought on sale and – WHAM! – huge savings. With a discounted gift card, I can easily bump up my over all savings to 50% off. Here’s what I did.
1. Register at Plastic Jungle, Gift Card Rescue or another site that sells (and often buys) gift cards at a discount. Both PJ and GCR guarantee the transactions, though it’s savvy to read the fine print so you know the refund process is if something goes wrong. I prefer Plastic Jungle because it has a bigger selection of cards than Gift Card Rescue, and also because I’m an affiliate so I earn a small commission if others use my link.
2. Set up email alerts for retailers you regularly shop at. I signed up for
