Where Should You Buy Easter Candy?

Where do you buy Easter candy? Via Shutterstock.

Have you started to stock up on Easter candy? Check out our list of Easter candy prices. You can find some great Easter deals at the dollar store, but if you’re set on specific brands you might have to look elsewhere and pay more.

I compared prices of popular Easter candies and chocolate brands at Target, Walmart, and Amazon. This list is based off of online prices, so it isn’t specific to a particular store or area. You may be able to score cheaper prices with store coupons.

Where are the best Easter candy deals?

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Easter Bunny 5 oz.

There are girls and boys packaging for these bunnies. The girl bunny is a Princess bunny and the boy’s is a Speedy bunny. While the packaging is different, they are both the same price at stores.

Walmart: $3.28

Target: $3.98

Amazon: I could only find 4 packs of this chocolate bunny on Amazon. They were selling for $17.78 which comes out to $4.46 per bunny. I thought buying in bulk would be cheaper, but I guess not!

Cadbury Eggs

Target: Five count for $2.88. About $0.58 per egg.

Walmart: Five count for $2.88. About $0.58 per egg.

Amazon: 6 boxes of four eggs for $20. Around $4.17 for five eggs or $0.83 per egg.

Peeps

Dollar Tree: Packs of 8 for $1

Walmart: Packs of 12 for $1.08

Target: Packs of 12 for $1.99

Fun Fact: Peeps are no longer just an Easter treat! Peeps will now be available year round.

Jelly Beans

Dollar Tree: I could only find one type of jelly beans for sale. You can grab a 9 oz. bag of Coastal jelly beans for $1.

Target: Target also has SweeTart, Nerds, and Lifesaver jelly beans for $2.24. They also have Starburst jelly beans on sale for $2.

Walmart: Walmart has SweeTart (1.87 lbs) and Jolly Rancher (14.8 oz) jelly beans for $2.28. They also have Jelly Belly jelly beans (9 oz.) for $2.97.

Amazon: You can grab a 4-pound container of Signature Jelly Belly Jelly Beans for $19.69. That’s about $0.31 an oz.

Reese’s Milk Chocolate Easter Bunny 16 oz.

Walmart: This giant 1-pound bunny is $9.98.

Amazon: The huge 1 pound bunny is $24.99.

Note: The Reese’s 5 oz. bunny is on sale at Target for $3.98 and Walmart for $3.28. The same prices as the Hershey’s 5 oz. bunny.

Palmer Easter Bunny

Walmart: You can snag a 14 oz. Palmer’s Easter bunny at Walmart for $7.98. Around $0.57 per ounce

Target: Target has a 5 oz. Palmer Easter bunny for sale for $3.49 which is about $0.70 per ounce.

Dollar Tree: You can grab a Palmer’s 2.5 oz. Easter bunny for $1, which is $0.40 per ounce.

It seems that the best deals for Easter candy are at Walmart. I don’t shop at Walmart that very often because I prefer Target, but with these deals I might be willing to take a trip. Personally, I love the dollar store but the variety of chocolate isn’t very exciting. Normally, I can only find Palmer’s chocolate there. If you’re looking for items for an Easter egg hunt or to fill your child’s Easter basket the dollar store has some great non-candy fillers. I’ll still be looking for coupons to take down the prices, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be buying my Easter candy from Walmart this year.

I have always found Amazon to be extremely expensive for food items. The four pound jelly bellys is a good buy, but with only 2 of us in the house I’d throw away more than half (which stops it being a good buy). I get most of my easter candy at the 99cents only store. I can buy all we need for 5.00 or less.

@Marilyn I find that to be true as well! A few years ago – so this could be out of date – I did a grocery comparison and found that unless you lived in Seattle where Amazon had a special grocery delivery program – the prices were no where near competitive to a regular grocery store. Amazon’s strength when it comes to food, however, is in gourmet and specialty items. These are hard to find and shoppers are willing to pay top dollar.

Hi Marilyn! I’ve heard great things about the 99cents only store but I’ve never been. I think the closest one to me (I live in Rhode Island) is in Massachusetts. I agree that Amazon has rather high food prices. The only reason I would buy food items on Amazon is if I was buying in bulk. Since we only have three young children in the family right now, buying in bulk wouldn’t make sense. My cousins live in Boston, so maybe the next time I’m there I’ll check out the 99cents only store. Thanks for the tip!

I buy Easter candy wherever it is on sale. I live near 3 drugstores (Rite Aid, CVS, and Walgreens) plus Target and Walmart. I just look through the weekly ads and compare prices. My best score so far? Starburst FaveReds jellybeans at Walgreens, on sale for $2/bag. There’s a store coupon ($1 off 2 bags) plus a manufacturer’s coupon (also $1 off 2 bags). So I paid only $2 for two 14 oz bags! 🙂

@Denise Nice score! I only have one drugstore near my, CVS, and so I don’t get to comparison shop as much. There is a Walmart about 15 minutes away, but as a policy I avoid Walmart. I splurged and ordered Easter chocolate from See’s, where my Mom used to always buy our Easter chocolate. It brings back so many positive memories, I feel like I’m reliving my childhood!
