A watery glass of luke-warm coffee is a bummer. A good cup of coffee is a treat. A glass of perfectly made iced coffee is a spiritual experience!
Years ago a barista taught me the secret of correctly made iced coffee. The secret is so simple and easy that it is a constant wonder to me that so few coffee shops make so-so iced coffee. Learn my secret and save yourself a few bucks while sipping a delightful beverage.
Here is the secret:
- Make coffee.
- Put it in a pitcher.
- Put the pitcher in the refrigerator.
- Now, when you add ice cubes they won’t immediately melt and leave your coffee watered down.
- Or drink your chilled coffee without ice.
Variation on the theme:
- Make coffee.
- Pour coffee into ice cube trays and freeze.
- Store cubes in a bag in the freezer.
- Make your coffee hot and fresh.
- Add coffee cubes.
- This gives you fresh iced coffee.
Tip: You can also pour milk into ice trays.
Serve up iced coffee with one of my delicious salads. Yum! A great afternoon delight. That’s how I make perfect iced coffee. How about you?

Here is the real secret: cold brew. Brewing coffee hot and cooling it, or cooling it in the fridge tends to make it acidic and tangy in taste; not a good quality. Cold brewing will work the same way as making sun tea, of sorts except the coffee is brewed in the fridge over 8-12hrs. Use a ratio of 12-16oz coarse ground coffee to 1gal of water. Put the coffee grounds in a pitcher, add cold water, and steep 8-12hrs in the fridge. Take it out, strain it and enjoy. Toddy makers are made for this. Google them! Good luck!

Seems simple enough, until I accidentally put my coffee-cubes in my glass of soda…
