I accidentally threw out my husband’s razor shortly after moving in with him. Opps! It is a testament to his calm demeanor that he was disappointed, not angry. Ever since then, he’s dreaded shaving his head with my electric razor because mine isn’t tough enough.
Then I got an email from Jodi at Philips Norelco asking if we wanted to test out a new men’s shaver and trimmer for the Bargain Babe Hot Holiday Gift Guide. Yes, please!
We’ve also suggested electronics gifts, gifts at Sears, and toys for kids. Over the next two weeks, we will suggest gifts for kids, teens, men, and women. There will also be a day devoted to unique and quirky gifts, and we’ll finish the gift guide on Dec. 9 with a roundup of the best overall gifts.
Here’s what my husband said about the Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D shaver (above) and Turbo Vacuum Trimmer
(below) that we received:
- “It worked on my head really well but it didn’t work as well on my face.”
- “My hairs were too long for the razor.”
- “It has a lot of pieces.”
Here’s what I say about the electric razor and men’s trimmer
:
- The shaver gave him the cleanest haircut he’d had in months.
- The trimmer’s built-in vacuum drastically reduced the number of annoying hairs that remain in the sink.
- The trimmer has a digital display that you can change to cut from 1 mm to 18mm. No more messy attachments to get the right length!
- Both shaver and trimmer have a very manly appearance that is slightly intimidating.
The shaver holder is a sizeable piece of black plastic that doubles as a bath for the shaver. Add a bit of cleaning solution, and the razor automatically dips down, cleans itself, then pops up in a very, uh, manly way. We had a few giggles about that.
Both devices have digital power readings and are easy to clean. You can go cordless or plug them in. These are definitely high-performing, high-end products. The shaver sells for $229 (orig. $249) and the trimmer is $50 (orig. $60) on Amazon. If your guy takes care of his stuff and really enjoys a clean shave, I’d recommend both highly.
Another option, which we did not test out, is the Philips Norelco 180 Degree Clipper, for $34 (orig. $40). The head rotates 180 degrees so you can reach everywhere. It comes with an attachable trimmer and is fully washable. The setting range is even greater than the vacuum trimmer, from 1 to 30 mm. And it requires no lubrication.
